Some words from the Principal

Mrs Courtney Hoffman

Dear Karoo PS Community,

'I want to help other people by showing them that putting yourself in front of challenges helps you learn new things.'

Rafaela, 4D, Feb 2025

What a sensational fortnight at Karoo PS.  The students and staff have been settling positively into the rhythm of the school year and demonstrating our Karoo PS Values of Kindness, Personal Excellence and Tenacity. In the past fortnight our 2026 Foundation students have commenced their school journeys, and it has been with great excitement that we welcome new and returning families on this special journey also. A heartfelt thank you goes out to our Foundation teachers, Ms Clare McCandlish, Miss Tiana Dias and Mrs Claire Tilley for support our Foundation students to settle in so smoothly.  I would also like to extend the thank you to our Year 5 leaders, who have been present during our Foundation students play times to support them too.  It has been wonderful to see the special buddy connections begining to develop.

Karoo PS Swimming Superstars!

A big thank you to Mrs Kavanagh for running the swimming trials early last Friday morning and to our parents John S, Caroline K, Robyn H and Jessica P for the support provided in their official roles at the event - your time, organisation, and energy made the event run so smoothly and gave our students a great opportunity to shine in the pool!

Thank you as well to all the parents who came along to support their children. Your encouragement and help are always appreciated and make these events possible. Good luck to all our students who will be representing our school at the District Swimming event next week, on Tuesday 17th Feb. We look forward to cheering you on!

School Council Nominations Open 2026

As you will have seen on Compass, School Council nominations have begun for 2026. I encourage you to nominate yourself or another community member if you or they are interested in representing our school families and assist in the constant improvement of our school. Council meetings are held eight times a year on Tuesday nights at 7pm.

Parents on School Councils provide important viewpoints and have valuable skills that can help shape the direction of the school. One of the great things about our school is our strong parent input and involvement. Our School Council is one forum in which parents and staff work together for the benefit of all our students.

At the beginning of each school year, we have a number of vacancies for School Council. There are 5 x Parent member positions to fill this year.  If you are interested in nominating, please collect a form from the school office or download one from Compass.  These must be lodged at the school office by 4pm Friday 27th February.

Karoo Parents' Association (KPA)

The Karoo Parents' Association (KPA) plays a crucial role in fostering a sense of community, connecting parents, and supporting the school council. The AGM was held last week, and Rhi Fogal will continue in the role as KPA President in 2026.

We welcome parents to join our KPA and work together to continue to strengthen our community bonds, foster collaboration, and create an inclusive environment for families. How fortunate we are to have such a vibrant school community, and the KPA plays a huge role in that - it's never too late to be involved!

Colour Run 2026!

We are excited to announce that we will be running a Karoo PS COLOUR RUN in 2026! Our previous Colour Run in 2024 was a fun and unforgettable experience, and we look forward to the same this year.

Our 2026 Colour Run will be our MAJOR fundraising event this year and our current fundraising goals are:

  • Upgrading/resurfacing our Basketball Courts

  • Purchasing Decodable Texts

Our fundraising target for 2026 is to raise $20,000 to be able to action our goals!

Therefore, to support our Colour Run and fundraising for our school, we are asking for prize donations! Your generous donations of prizes will go directly to the students, linked with their fundraising efforts.  We believe that in coming together for this fun event, we can create a ripple effect of positive change in our community and continue to upgrade our facilities and resources to enhance the learning environment for all our students!

More event and fundraising details to come but please contact me if you have anything that you are able to donate as prizes. Thankyou!
