Last week our Year 4 students enjoyed an incredible camp filled with adventure, learning, and plenty of fun. The journey to Port Arthur included stops in Longford and Oatlands, where students enjoyed time together and even caught sight of Mr Dance having a turn on the flying fox! They also stepped back in time while exploring Old Hobart Town and the Old Richmond Gaol, bringing Tasmania's history to life in an engaging and memorable way.
A highlight of the camp was the visit to Port Arthur Historic Site. Students participated in a brickmaking workshop, toured the historic grounds, enjoyed lunch at the café, and finished the day with a scenic harbour cruise. Throughout the experience, students displayed curiosity, resilience, and excellent behaviour, making the most of every opportunity to learn and explore.
Beyond the activities, camp provided valuable opportunities for students to grow in independence, strengthen friendships, and create lasting memories. We are incredibly grateful to our DCS team staff, parent volunteers, and Year 4 parents for their dedication and support in making the camp such a success. Most importantly, we thank God for His protection and blessings throughout this wonderful experience.
Here are some student reflections from Camp:
When we went to Year 4 camp we had lot of fun. My favourite things were exploring and making bricks at Port Arthur, going to Old Hobart Town, eating delicious food at Blue Lagoon, and going down the slide - Dorothy H
Some of my favourite parts about camp were the rec hall and games room because we could play air hockey, basketball, pool and table tennis. I also liked the ruins of Port Arthur, looking at the prison cells, making bricks and going on the cruise to see the Isle of the Dead - Josiah F
My favourite part of camp was going on the massive slide. Another thing I enjoyed was going to see all the old jail cells at Port Arthur - Hudson B

The Schools Triathlon Challenge will be held in Devonport on Thursday 26 November 2026 for students in Years 3-6.
This event is a fantastic opportunity for students to try a new sport in a fun, supportive environment. Participation is the focus of the day, and students are encouraged to get involved regardless of their fitness level, ability, previous experience, or preferred sport.
Students may enter as an individual or as part of a team. As the individual and team races are scheduled at different times, students are welcome to enter both events if they wish. The entry fee is $32 per student, regardless of the number of events entered.
Teams may be all-male, all-female, or mixed, and can consist of two or three students (if a student is happy to do more than one leg of the triathlon). Team members may be from different year levels; however, teams will compete in the age category of the oldest student.
If your child would like to be part of a team, please indicate on the entry form which leg of the triathlon they would prefer to complete (swim, ride, or run), and we will do our best to help form teams. If your child has already organised a team with friends, please list each competitor's name and year level on the entry form in the leg they will complete. For example:
Swimmer - Tom Evans - Year 4
Students wishing to participate should return their entry form to the school office by 8:30am on Friday 28 August. Entry forms have been sent home with students and are also available from the Central Office and a copy has also been attached for your reference. Please select download to view or print.
Please note that the $32 entry fee must be paid when submitting the entry form (cash or EFT accepted).
This event will be conducted as a school excursion. A permission form will be sent to families of participating students via Consent2Go closer to the event date.
Students will need to provide their own triathlon equipment, including:
Bathers and/or wetsuit
Running shoes
Bike
Approved bicycle helmet
Families will also be responsible for transporting bikes to and from the event.
Further information will be provided closer to the day, or you can visit www.schoolstriathlonchallenge.com.
This year for the first time, we have registered to help raise money for Diabetes Australia. If you would like to take part in this optional extra, please indicate this on the entry form and visit for more information: https://give.diabetesaustralia.com.au/fundraisers/devonportchristianschool.
Thank you. We look forward to another fantastic event!
