Soccer Tops: Please Return to Central Office

With the 2026 soccer season drawing to a close, we are asking that all DCS soccer tops please be returned to the Central Office by Wednesday 2nd September.

Thank you for your support in cheering on our students each week, we hope they have had a wonderful season.

Devonport Chooses Its New Floral & Fauna Emblems

Devonport’s community has selected two new natural symbols to represent the city, concluding a major engagement project delivered entirely by Don College Community Services Cert II students.

Over six weeks, students led the full process: gathering nominations, speaking with residents, promoting voting, and supporting consultation activities across the city. Their work resulted in one of Devonport’s strongest community participation efforts, with 1,656 votes cast across both emblem categories.

The community chose:

• Floral Emblem: the Native White‑flag Iris (Diplarrena moraea)

• Fauna Emblem: the Superb Fairy‑wren (Malurus cyaneus)

   

Local schools played a major role, contributing 794 votes and helping ensure young people had a voice in shaping Devonport’s identity. Many classes explored the shortlisted species, discussed their environmental significance, and encouraged families to participate.

The chosen emblems reflect the plants and animals the community feels best represent Devonport’s landscape, heritage and future. They will support local storytelling, strengthen identity, and celebrate the region’s natural environment.

The results will be formally presented to Devonport City Council for adoption on 24 August 2026, with further opportunities for community involvement to follow — including helping choose a name for Devonport’s Superb Fairy‑wren.

This project strongly aligns with the recently revised Live & Learn Strategy, demonstrating the power of real‑world learning and youth leadership in shaping community outcomes.
