Dear families

We hope you are all enjoying Term 3 so far. Here are some important updates and upcoming events for Week 7.

Book Week 

Book Week is not only about dressing up – it’s about promoting reading every day for both children and adults. Children who regularly read develop stronger literacy and communication skills, achieve better academic results across all subjects, and enhance cognitive abilities such as memory and critical thinking.

While we have regular reading sessions in the classroom and a comprehensive library program, reading at home is vital. Daily reading outside of school helps reinforce skills, builds positive reading habits, and gives children the chance to explore books that interest them. Support from families plays an important role in fostering a lifelong love of reading and strengthening learning outcomes for students.

Book Fair 

This week, students will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of books during our Book Fair. It’s a wonderful chance for students to discover new stories, authors, and genres that will inspire a love of reading. Students can view the books throughout the week and make purchases either online, or in person on Monday. We encourage everyone to take part and support our school’s literacy initiatives. 

Book Week Parade – Monday 7 September 

Get ready for our much-loved Book Week Parade, happening next Monday! Students and staff are invited to dress up as their favourite book characters. It promises to be a fun and colourful day celebrating the joy of reading. Families are most welcome to attend and cheer on the fantastic costumes and creativity displayed by our students. 

Father’s Day Stall – Thursday 3 September 

Our P&C is excited to run the annual Father’s Day Stall this Thursday. This is a great opportunity for students to pick out special gifts for their dads, grandfathers, or special father figures in their lives. A wide selection of thoughtful and affordable gifts will be available. Thank you to our P&C for organising tis and their wonderful volunteers. 

Premier’s Debating Challenge 

Congratulations to our Premier’s Debating Challenge Team for their outstanding performance last week at the Regional Knockout Finals. They competed against Manly West Public School on the topic, ‘That primary school teachers should set a research project for homework over every school holidays’. It was a lively and engaging debate that showcased our students’ excellent critical thinking and public speaking skills. We are very proud of their achievement and look forward to their next debate. 

Creative Arts Night – This Thursday evening  

Performances by the recorders, orchestra, choir, and dance groups will be held in the school hall, offering a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the diverse talents of our students. We are incredibly proud of our school’s performers, who have shown dedication and skill in their rehearsals. Alongside the performers, our cooking club will also be featured, showcasing the culinary talents of our students. 

This event is designed as an informal, family-friendly gathering where everyone can come together to celebrate and support the creativity and hard work of our students across different extracurricular programs. Cakes and coffee will be available for purchase, with all proceeds going directly to support and enhance our school’s extracurricular activities. 

Please remember to bring cash, preferably coins and smaller notes, to make purchases easy and convenient. We look forward to sharing this special occasion with our school community and celebrating the amazing talents of our students.
