Year 11 Modern History – Holocaust Education Centre Excursion

On Monday 19 October, the Year 11 Modern History students had the opportunity to visit the newly opened Holocaust Education Centre in Yokine as part of their studies of Nazi Germany.

Through immersive exhibitions, multimedia displays and engaging presentations, students explored the rise of Nazi Germany, the events leading to the Holocaust and the devastating consequences of prejudice, discrimination and indifference. A particularly thought-provoking aspect of the visit was the exploration of human psychology, including how the desire to belong, conform to social expectations and obey authority can influence individual behaviour and contribute to discrimination and persecution. Students also reflected on themes of resistance, resilience and moral courage, as well as the importance of democracy, tolerance and respect in today's world.

The students were complimented by the facilitators on their preparedness, thoughtful contributions, and active engagement throughout the visit. They represented the College in an outstanding and respectful manner, demonstrating maturity and a genuine appreciation of the significance of this important historical experience.

Each year we prepare a Wall of Remembrance, honouring all deceased and living servicemen and women who have participated in national service. If you have a family name that you would like to place on the Wall of Remembrance, please email the full name and ranking to danielle.pisconeri@norbert.wa.edu.au in the HASS office by Friday 6th November.
