COLLEGE NEWS

From the College Principal

As we near the end of Term 1, our students are settled, working and studying hard. Year 11 have quickly moved into serious study mode and Year 12, as is usual, will begin to feel the pressure with assessments for most courses now occurring.

Week 8 was Focus Week for our Year 12 students. This allowed them to take a break from regular classes and focus on current and upcoming assessment tasks, as well as preparation for HSC major projects and performances.

Celebration Assembly

Wyndham College takes pride in the achievements of its students, past and present. In this light, we recently held a Celebration Assembly to honour our Year 12 2023 DUX and High Achievers - those who received Band 6 results, outstanding ATARs or inclusion in the prestigious HSC exhibitions such as ArtExpress and SHAPE.

As a reward for his exemplary dedication and commitment to his studies, Vansh Kalra is the DUX of Wyndham College for 2023. Congratulations and well done Vansh!

Zahra Ahmed, Nasren Dodangeh, Lachlan Goodwin, Robert Hannon, Bradley Kegg, Abby Kitto, Megan Kotze, Amani Migahed, Xiaqita Penaflor, Emma Putar-Vrcek, Nada Shadid, Charlie Thomas and Isabella Warland were recognised as 2023's HSC High Achievers. Congratulations and well done to you all!

The SHAPE Exhibition

It was my distinct pleasure to attend the launch of the SHAPE Exhibition this year. This Exhibition showcases exemplary 2023 Higher School Certificate major works from Design and Technology, Industrial Technology, and Textiles and Design.

Lachlan Goodwin's 2023 HSC major work for Industrial Technology - Timber Products & Furniture was one of twelve from across the state, of which only six were timber projects, that were selected for inclusion in this year's SHAPE Exhibition.

This is an outstanding achievement and testament to Lachlan's skill and commitment to excellence. We congratulate Lachlan on this fabulous achievement.

The SHAPE Exhibition runs from 19 March to 17 May 2024 at Pier 2/3 Walsh Bay Arts Precinct and is open from 9am - 5pm Monday to Saturday.

The Michael Vassili Award for Outstanding Achievement

On Saturday 16 March, Kellie Boyd, our Year 12 Deputy Principal, and I were honoured to attend the Michael Vassili Award Ceremony hosted by the Lions Club. We had the privilege of seeing Christine Douglas, from Year 12, being presented with the Michael Vassili Award for Outstanding Achievement, in recognition of her dedication, leadership and unwavering commitment to excellence.

As we celebrate Christine's accomplishments, we also extend our congratulations to all the other deserving individuals who were recognised on this special night.

Director of Educational Leadership Recognises Student Achievement

Our Director of Educational Leadership, Jo Gardiner, has also acknowledged the outstanding achievements of both Christine and Lachlan, saying " the inspiring Wyndham College School Captain Christine Douglas, has been awarded a Michael Vassili Award for Outstanding Achievement, well deserved!" and "We are very proud of Wyndham College student Lachlan Goodwin representing Western Sydney and Public Education at the SHAPE showcase of Industrial Tech HSC works … Lachlan worked with outstanding teachers to produce an exemplary piece of furniture."

Macquarie University Emerging Leaders Program

Well done to Arten Sohailee who represented our school at the Macquarie University Emerging Leaders Program. The students met other brilliant and like-minded student leaders from all around New South Wales. The event showcased individuals who spoke about leadership and how being a leader means being able to hold great responsibility and to make sacrifices.

They were given a sneak peek of life at university. They were given an exclusive tour of the campus and were the first ones to view the new law building which was a very cool experience!

Congratulations Joanne Andrew

Wyndham College would like to congratulate former relieving Collegiate Deputy Principal, Joanne Andrew, on her new appointment as substantive Deputy Principal at Chifley College Senior Campus.

We wish her well in her new position and thank her for the three years she spent working with us as Collegiate DP. Jo worked tirelessly to facilitate collaboration across the Collegiate as well as with students and families the transition into Year 11.
