Uniform

Year 12 have commenced their final year of study with determination and focus. Seeing most wearing their senior uniforms with pride, symbolizes their readiness to take on the challenges ahead. Wyndham College is a uniform school, and we expect all students to be in full school uniform each day. This includes wearing black leather shoes, which is a Health and Safety requirement. If there is a reason a student is out of uniform, please ensure they supply a note to explain the circumstances. Students and families may contact me if any other assistance or support is needed.

Attendance

The first Attendance Report for 2024 was sent to all Year 12 families last week. It is available in the Sentral Parent Portal. I am so pleased that over 70% of students had either maintained high attendance in all their classes (80% or above) or had improved their overall and/or individual class attendance. Every small step counts, and increased attendance improves student confidence, achievement, and self-pride. Keep up the magnificent work everyone.

Overseas Travel

Sometimes, students and their families apply for extended leave for travel. We certainly appreciate that family illnesses and other reasons are beyond the control of families and some families have not seen relatives from overseas for some time. However, absences result in significant portions of the curriculum being missed. Whilst teachers place material on their Google Classroom to support learning, it is not designed to replace face-to-face learning.

Please consider if it is possible to incorporate the school holidays into your arrangements. This will help minimise the disruption to learning and assessment tasks and reduce the impact of extended absences.

Academic Reviews

Earlier this term, I held Academic Reviews with students, who had not submitted the first Year 12 Assessment Task in two or more of their HSC courses. With most courses now having finalised their second Year 12 Assessment Task, I will again be holding Academic Reviews. When students have not completed two Assessment Tasks in a course, this presents concerns for the ability to successfully progress and to achieve the HSC.

These meetings will be held early in term 2. I encourage all students to ensure they complete and submit all Assessment Tasks on time or on receipt of an 'N' Award Warning letter.

For those for whom it is relevant, please make use of the Illness/Misadventure form and procedures. All matters related to HSC Assessments can be found in the HSC Assessment Handbook 2024 on the Assessment and reporting page at our school website.
