Oxford Falls Facilities Update
Please be aware that we will again be sharing the venue with ongoing construction works at Oxford Falls this weekend. As a result, there will be less spectator seating available than usual within the CBC.
We kindly ask families to utilise the seating provided and, where possible, avoid gathering near entrances, walkways, team benches, and designated player areas. For the safety and comfort of all attendees, please also refrain from standing along the court edge.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as these works continue. Your support helps us provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all players, officials, and spectators.
Parent Assistance
To help ensure game days run smoothly, each team requires a parent volunteer to assist with managing the bench during matches. If you are able to help, please introduce yourself to both the team coach and the referee before the game. Your support is greatly appreciated and helps our coaches focus on the players and the game.
Thank you for your ongoing support of SPX Basketball.
Basketball Round 2 Wrap-Up
Congratulations to all players and coaches on another strong weekend of basketball. While results did not always fall our way, there were many positive signs across the program and plenty of reasons to be excited about the weeks ahead.
A huge thank you must also go to our players for their outstanding commitment to training. Attendance across the first 2 weeks of the season has been excellent and is already having a positive impact on team performance and development.
It is also important to recognise that many of our teams have faced some of the strongest opposition they are likely to encounter all season during the opening two rounds. With more time together on the training court and a greater understanding of team structures and systems, many of our teams are well placed to challenge for finals positions as the season progresses.
Special congratulations to our winning teams:
13C, who produced an outstanding 37-7 victory, with six different players contributing to the scoreboard in a true team performance.
15C, who continued their strong start with a convincing 47-24 win.
5th V, who recorded an impressive 18-5 victory.
4th V, who won a thrilling internal contest against the 3rd V. It was a must watch match!
Several teams were also unlucky not to come away with a win. The 14C team pushed their opponents all the way in a narrow 23-20 loss, with coaches praising the intensity and effort shown throughout the match. Similarly, the 15F team fell just one point short, while the 2nd V showed tremendous fight in a five-point loss against a strong St Augustine's side.
The 17D team also deserves recognition for their effort against a physically dominant opponent. Coach Matt Watts highlighted the group's positive transition play and offensive spacing, while identifying communication and court positioning as key areas for continued improvement. Most importantly, the team maintained their effort and attitude throughout a challenging contest.
As a program, we continue to see significant growth each week. The foundations are being built through strong training attendance, commitment to team-first basketball, and a willingness to learn. We encourage all players to keep working hard at training, supporting their teammates, and embracing the opportunities ahead.
Fixtures, Attendance and Notifications
There was a significant number of players who missed their Round 1 fixtures. Pleasingly, based on training attendance this week, we are expecting a much stronger turnout moving forward. Team sport relies on the commitment of all players, and attendance at fixtures is an important part of representing the College and supporting teammates.
Fixtures for all SPX sports are available through Clipboard. Please note that fixtures may initially appear as 'Unconfirmed' and display a placeholder time (such as 2:35 am) or temporary venue. Once details are confirmed by opposition schools, fixtures will be updated in Clipboard and marked 'Confirmed'. This process can occur as late as Thursday each week, so families are encouraged to check Clipboard regularly for updates.
Attendance: Students are expected to attend all scheduled training sessions and fixtures throughout the season. If your son is unable to attend a training session or fixture, please record the absence through Clipboard and send a courtesy email to Mr Bourke as soon as possible. This assists coaches with team planning, supervision and communication.
When recording an absence, families should note that family commitments are not generally considered a valid reason for missing a scheduled fixture. Teams, venues and opposition schools rely on player availability, and late withdrawals can have a significant impact on teammates and the competition as a whole. Please try to provide as much detail as possible for the explanation.
Families may also start receiving attendance notifications if a student is absent from a training session or fixture without prior notice. Thank you for your support in helping us provide a safe, organised and positive sporting experience for all students while upholding the commitment expected of SPX athletes.
Basketball Supporters Club
We Need You!
The SPX Basketball Club needs your help.
To continue improving our program, raising standards, and creating greater opportunities for our students, the Basketball Club is working hard to fundraise throughout the season. Our BBQ fundraiser in Week 1 was a fantastic success, and we will be back again on Saturday 31 October.
With your support, we can make a real impact. Every dollar raised helps strengthen our program and contribute to future success for our players and teams. We encourage families to stop by, grab a sausage sandwich, and support the club where possible.
We are also seeking parent volunteers to assist on the day. If you can spare 30 minutes to an hour, it would be greatly appreciated and will go a long way towards making the event a success.

Saturday 24 October 2026 – ISA Cricket Round 2
1st XI 9/219 defeated by Oakhill College 7/223 @ Oakhill College.
The 1st XI travelled to Oakhill and batting first started strongly with Archie Wragge (30), Zach Rapa (32), and Darcy Horstead (46) all getting starts against a disciplined bowling attack. Supporting efforts by Kamran Nadeem (24), Jared Fernandes (22), Eddie Stearn (24) , and Max Barnett (16*) produced a competitive total of 9/219 after 50 overs. Oakhill batsmen used the local conditions to their advantage and forced 1st XI bowlers to work hard for each wicket. Max Barnett (2/45), Alex Burke (2/71) and wickets each to Brody Mendel (1/32) and Zach Rapa (1/15) ensured the match remained close and tight into the 48th over. A tough loss but a good game of cricket from both sides.

Touch Football
Round 1 of the ISA Touch Football Competition got underway on Saturday, with all St Pius X College teams competing at the Macquarie University Sports Fields in a double-header format. It was an encouraging start to the season, with players displaying great enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and determination across the day. Results from across the program reflected the hard work that has been evident at training throughout the pre-season.
The senior teams made an outstanding start to their campaigns, remaining undefeated across their four matches. The 1st VI recorded impressive victories over Redlands, defeating the 2nd VI 9-1 before backing up with an 8-1 win against the Redlands 3rd VI. The 2nd VI also enjoyed a successful morning, securing an 11-0 victory over the Redlands 3rd VI and a hard-fought 6-4 win over the Redlands 2nd VI.
The junior teams experienced a mixture of results but demonstrated resilience and commitment throughout the day. Junior A responded strongly after an opening loss to Oakhill College, producing an excellent 15-1 victory over Redlands in their second fixture. Junior B recorded a convincing 9-2 win against Oakhill College, while Junior C battled strongly in two competitive matches against Redlands and St Andrew’s Cathedral School.
