Winter Gala Sports Day

Last week, our 5/6 students competed in our District Interschool Sports Winter Gala. We got on buses and went to either Princes Park or Fairlea Reserve. Students chose either AFL9s, Teeball, Soccer or Netball and competed against other schools in our area in a round robin competition. This is what some of our athletes had to say after the day:

Anni (Netball) - We played 5 games against other schools. I enjoyed having fun with my team. I especially enjoyed playing centre because I had fun running around like crazy! I was really impressed with my whole team, they communicated well and tried their best. Lucy, Beth, Michael, Natalie (ES staff and parent helpers) were amazing at cheering for us.

Oscar (AFL9s) - We played 3 games and we only won 1 out of the three sadly. I loved kicking goals and playing markers up. I also loved tackling! A teammate that impressed me was Parker’s goal kicking, his kicks were really straight. Janel (parent) did a great job gathering the team before our games.

Arvo (Soccer) - We played 4 games and won 1 against Carlton North, with a score of 1-0. We also played Clifton Hill, Sacred Heart and St. Josephs. I really enjoyed working together with my team and playing soccer with my friends. Zian did a great job because he was an awesome goalie. He saved some penalties and other shots. Our adult helpers (Sherry, Lisa, Joey) brought equipment for us and set up a place for us to rest between matches.  

Sophie (Teeball) - We played 7 games and won 3 and 2 draws. The best part of the day was hitting the teeball then sprinting to different bases. My first hit was a home run! When we were facing a tough team, Michael went out further into the outfield to catch bigger hits, I thought this was a smart idea. Leigh (parent) helped warm up and taught us how to catch the ball.

A big thanks to our family helpers Michael, Natalie, Janel and Leigh for giving us a whole day of their time to help us! We also appreciate Lisa, Sherry and Lucy for joining us on the day. Lastly, thanks also to our amazing 5/6 teachers and Aaron and Beth for organising teams, umpiring and cheering on our athletes. We can’t wait for the Summer Gala in Term 4!
