A Confident and Creative Year Ahead!

Music at BMGS has begun the year with energy and optimism, and it is a pleasure to share some exciting developments within the department.

Following Debbie Smith’s retirement at the end of last year, I have stepped into the role of Acting Head of Music while we undertake a careful search for our next permanent Head of Department. Debbie leaves a strong legacy, and we are grateful for her many years of dedication to our students and to the life of the School.

We are delighted to welcome Luke Webb and Allison Lewis to the Music team. Many in our community already know Luke through his previous role as Chaplain; he now brings both musical expertise and a deep understanding of our students into the classroom. Allison is Conservatorium-trained and an experienced HSC Music teacher, bringing significant depth of knowledge and academic expertise across both Junior and Senior School programs.

We are also fortunate to have Julie Cooney continuing in the department, contributing her wealth of experience and longstanding commitment to music education at BMGS. Chloe Collins provides invaluable administrative support, helping ensure the smooth running of what is an increasingly vibrant and growing program.

The beginning of this term has seen an outstanding response to co-curricular music, with strong numbers signing up for Choir and Rock Band — at this rate we may even have enough for a Battle of the Bands!

Music at BMGS is not simply continuing — it is growing, evolving and full of promise. More than that, it remains a place where students find connection, confidence and a genuine sense of belonging through shared creativity and performance.
