Acting Head of Sport Report
Welcome back to another year of Sport at BMGS! We have already hit the ground running…or should I say jumped in the pool swimming! Congratulations to all who participated in our Senior School Swimming carnival Friday – even if you were a volunteer, you still earn house points. The Junior School has to wait for Thursday 19th February for their chance to make that dash through the pool. Many thanks to our wonderful parent volunteers who make these events extra special.
Our ISA summer sports have already had two round since returning. Commendation goes to those students who turned up in the last week of the holidays to train and then play on the 31st Jan. Your commitment to your team is well-valued. We only have two more normal season rounds until we hit semis and finals. Make sure you continue to show up for training and games to finish the season well.
This weekend of sport (14th Feb) we have majority of our teams at home. Come along to show support of your BMGS teams!
Remember, if you have some sporting news to share, please come and see me or email me on lwade@bmgs.nsw.edu.au

Match Reports
TOUCH FOOTBALL
Girls Firsts:
Game 1: BMGS VS KINROSS
Coming into this game Kinross was top of the ladder, and it showed. A very difficult game in the hot sun out at Bathurst had our 1st girls go down 11-1. With our only try scorer August crossing over in the first half. The score doesn’t reflect the heart shown on the field, a difficult one to swallow but plenty learnt.
Game 2: BMGS VS SCOTS ALL SAINTS
Another game in the hot sun had the girls not very excited to say the least, but we gave it our all. Through some tough running through the middle and a quick play the ball we managed to open a gap for Edwina to go all the way. Then in the second halves through an old play we always run and one learnt moments before the game we were able to score twice. However Scots had far too many numbers for us to keep up with. Final score 4-3, a game were we learnt a heap and should he very proud of. Bring on next week.

Junior Girls:
This week we had a full side for the game, which made a big difference to everyone’s energy levels, and the score! Unfortunately for us, Central Coast had a full side, plus another set for subs, so they were definitely able to out-run us.
The girls had a great game though, with many excellent runs from Elise, Kelsey, Carlia and Rosie and some great defence, especially from Elena. Elise was the top try scorer this week with 2. She really did score 3 tries but, sadly, a technical error prevented one of those from being counted. In the end, we drew 2-2 with Central Coast Grammar School.
Well done, girls!

First Boys:
The firsts boys touch team have been developing their game chemistry and practicing playing in new positions as they have been low on numbers, meaning less subs and more effort. Despite low numbers at the first week of training, the boys pulled together to play a strong game against Redlands, taking out a win 9 tries to 5. They backed it up this week with another strong game, running with only three subs in very hot conditions. This meant the wingers Flynn and Jed played a full 40 minute game with no break - an incredible effort from both boys who defended and attacked to the best of their ability, scoring and stopping tries. The final score was a mighty 9-2 over St Augustines with tryscorers including Xav J and Tom with 1 each, Xav S with 2 and Hunter with 5. Congratulations boys let’s keep the momentum up moving into finals.
Junior Boys:
The junior boys touch team have been working hard to improve their skills, focusing on driving down the field, defending using their odds and evens to defend and running quick plays on the line. After a strong first session back the boys took their learnings into their game and secured their first win of the season! A tight game, the boys took it out by one try, final score being 8-7 against Oxley who had previously beat our BMGS boys 11-1 early in the season. This close scoreline shows just how far the junior boys have come. Tries came from Isaac and Yanni with 1 each, Charlie who got 2 and Allistair who scored himself 4. This week the boys worked hard again, versing St Gregory’s who are coming second on the ladder and have only lost one game all season. Despite the boy's efforts they unfortunately went down to a stronger and older side. The junior touch football boys should be proud of their efforts and growth and we encourage them to keep working hard at training and hopefully have another close game this weekend.

BASKETBALL
Firsts & Open Girls:
The firsts played strongly over the last 2 weeks, winning one game and losing the second. In the first game against Barker the girls combined strong defence with effective fast break offence to win 45-15. Lola, Ruby G and Graciella contributed strongly throughout the game. In the second game against St. Andrews the girls found it difficult to match the rebounding strength of the opposition, eventually losing 29-37. Poppy, Arabella and Eadie had strong games.
The seconds had 2 strong wins. In the first game against Barker, they were able to run the ball leading to many uncontested baskets. Hannah, Isabelle and Maggie had strong games. In the second game against the undefeated St. Andrews the girls played their best game of the season. They played strong defence and made excellent decisions in attack throughout the game. The final score of 48-28 was an accurate reflection of the game. All the girls played well with Maggie, Abigail and Lillian having particularly strong games.

13s Boys:
The U13s basketball team showed great determination in very hot conditions to earn a well-deserved 44-34 win against Chevalier. They moved the ball well, defended strongly, and stayed focused even when the heat made it tough. The team built a steady lead through teamwork, smart decisions, and consistent effort. As everyone became tired, the players kept encouraging each other and pushed through together. This win reflects their resilience, sportsmanship, and positive team spirit. Congratulations to them all!
