Years 1 & 2

Welcome to Term 3 in Grade 1/2
This term is full of engaging learning experiences as students continue to build confidence, independence and curiosity across all areas of the curriculum.
In English, students will enjoy exploring rich mentor texts including Can You Teach a Fish to Climb a Tree?, Chalk Boy and the unit Changing Families. These texts will support students to develop their reading comprehension, vocabulary and critical thinking while exploring themes of identity, belonging, friendship and inclusion. Through the Talk for Writing approach, students will create imaginative and persuasive texts, learning to write with greater detail, use dialogue effectively and confidently plan, draft, revise and publish their work.
In Mathematics, students will strengthen their understanding of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division through hands-on investigations, problem-solving and mathematical discussions. They will also explore repeating patterns, location and direction while developing fluency, reasoning and confidence in applying mathematics to everyday situations.
Students will participate in our 'Discovery' unit, Safe & Strong Bodies, where they will learn about growth and development, respectful relationships, body safety, protective behaviours and help-seeking strategies. Families are encouraged to support this learning by sharing stories and memories from their child's early years.
Term 3 also includes many exciting events, including Kitchen Garden, Parent-Teacher Conferences, student assemblies and our much-anticipated P-2 Swimming Program beginning on 24 August. We look forward to another fantastic term of learning and thank families for their continued support and partnership.
