Infrastructure and Facilities School Holiday Maintenance Update

Keeping JSA Safe, Welcoming and Well Maintained

While our students and staff enjoyed a well-deserved break, Jacana School for Autism was a hive of activity behind the scenes!

The school holidays provide a valuable opportunity to undertake essential maintenance, repairs and improvements with minimal disruption to teaching and learning. Over the Term 3 break, a range of contractors worked across the school to enhance the safety, comfort, accessibility and overall presentation of our learning environments.

Some of the key improvements included:

  • Building Improvements: Window tinting was installed in Rooms 4, 5 and 9, air conditioning repairs were completed in the Yaluk Building, and flooring works were completed in the Healthy Living Kitchen.

  • Playground Enhancements: Equipment across Playgrounds 3, 4 and 5 received a fresh coat of paint, while Tiger Turf undertook its annual maintenance of the synthetic turf in Playgrounds 2 and 3.

  • Safety and Security: New SALTO electronic locks were installed in the Administration area, repairs were completed to the primary corridor doors and a sewer pit issue was resolved.

  • Cleaning and Presentation: Our regular holiday cleaning program continued, including specialist cleaning of the primary corridor flooring, waste removal, recycling and general grounds maintenance.

Grounds and Outdoor Areas: Gardening, pruning, pathway maintenance and general upkeep were also scheduled to help maintain safe and welcoming outdoor spaces.

A special thank you to Jacob McKerchar, our Grounds Maintenance Officer, for his ongoing efforts in coordinating and attending to maintenance needs across the school, and to John Hill, who generously came in during the holidays to empty our recycling bins.

New Australian native plants have been introduced across our school grounds, enhancing our outdoor spaces, supporting local biodiversity and creating a greener, more welcoming environment.

These improvements may not always be immediately noticeable, but each contributes to providing a safer, more comfortable and welcoming environment for our students, staff and families.

We look forward to welcoming our invited guests and dignitaries to JSA's official opening ceremony as we celebrate this significant milestone for our school community.

We warmly extend an invitation to all JSA families and friends to join us for this special occasion as we celebrate an important milestone in our school’s journey.
