School Wide Positive Behaviour System

Update to Compass Communication – Minor and Major Incidents Visibility

As part of our ongoing efforts to improve communication and transparency with families, we would like to inform you of an upcoming update to our Compass system.

From Monday, 4th May 2026, any Major and Minor Incidents recorded in Compass will be visible to parents and carers via the Compass app.

This change is designed to provide families with more timely insight into their child’s day-to-day experiences at school and to support open conversations between home and school.

Please note that this update applies only to Minor Incidents. There is no change to the process for Major Incidents. For these matters, parents and carers will continue to receive direct email communication from the relevant Year Level Leader, following the established approval process.

If you have any questions about this update, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Mobile Phone Policy – Expectations and Family Support

Further to the communication you received from Suzie Harrison (Acting Principal) as part of our commitment to maintaining a focused and positive learning environment, Gisborne Secondary College will be strengthening the implementation of the Victorian Government’s statewide mobile phone policy.

This policy requires that mobile phones are switched off and securely stored during the school day, including during class time, recess, and lunch. The aim is to minimise distractions, support student wellbeing, and encourage positive social interactions.

Student Expectations

All students are expected to:

  • Bring their phone to school only if necessary
  • Switch their phone off before entering the school grounds
  • Store their phone securely in their locker or designated storage area for the duration of the school day
  • Refrain from using their phone until after the final bell

Failure to follow these expectations may result in the phone being confiscated and further consequences in line with our school’s student management policies.

Parent and Carer Support

We ask for your support in reinforcing these expectations at home. You can assist by:

  • Reminding your child of the importance of following the school rules
  • Avoiding contacting your child directly during school hours via their mobile phone
  • Contacting the school office if you need to pass on urgent messages

By working together, we can ensure that our school remains a safe, respectful, and engaging environment for all students.

We appreciate your ongoing support in helping us fully enforce this important policy.

Students who refuse to comply with the above processes will be given a clear and polite verbal warning that they are not following a teacher instruction and that this will result in them receiving a Major Incident – Significant Failure to Follow Teacher Instruction and the matter will immediately be escalated.
