News from Year 5/6

Term 3
Term 3 has begun well, and we are encouraging all Year 5/6 students to maintain a positive attitude towards their learning and consistently give their best effort.
A key focus this term is for students to be the boss of their own learning. This means taking responsibility for staying on task, making positive choices, and not allowing themselves to be distracted by others. It also means ensuring their own behaviour does not distract those around them.
By taking responsibility for their learning and maintaining high expectations of themselves, students will be better placed to achieve their personal best. We appreciate your support in reinforcing these expectations at home.
MLMC Musical Excursion – Peter and the Starcatcher
On Monday 28th July, our Year 5/6 students will attend the Mount Lilydale Mercy College production of Peter and the Starcatcher.
This is a wonderful opportunity for students to experience a live theatrical performance and support the talented students at MLMC. We will travel by bus, departing St Joseph's at 9:45am and returning to school by approximately 3:00pm.
If you have not already done so, please ensure permission is completed via nForma before the excursion.
Upper Yarra Secondary College Production – Alice @ Wonderland
Our Year 5/6 students have been invited to attend Upper Yarra Secondary College's 2026 school production, Alice @ Wonderland, on Wednesday 5th August.
Students will enjoy a live theatre performance presented by UYSC students, with a sausage sizzle provided at lunchtime. Transport to and from the performance will be organised by Upper Yarra Secondary College.
Further information, including transport times and permission details, will be sent to families via nForma ASAP.
Novel Study – Tom Appleby, Convict Boy
This term, our Year 5/6 class will be reading Tom Appleby, Convict Boy by Jackie French. Set in the early years of colonial Australia, the novel follows the journey of a young convict boy as he navigates the challenges of a new and unfamiliar land.
