What's Happening In Primary
News and Information from Primary
It has been another wonderful term in Primary School. We have seen students continue to grow and develop in all areas—whether in the classroom, on the playground, or through extracurricular activities.
Students have been using PhOrMeS in English and EMP and Oxford Owl in Mathematics, and it has been encouraging to see them continue to build their skills and confidence as learners.
What stands out most, however, is the way our students care for one another. Throughout the semester, we have explored how we can show compassion and be a blessing to others. As a result, we are seeing more students looking out for their peers, including others, and putting the needs of others before their own.
Thank you to our staff and families for your ongoing support. Together, we are helping our students grow not only academically, but also in character and faith.

On Monday 6th July, a team of six students represented Devonport Christian School at the Black Square Chess Tournament, held in the Jiloa Centre. The event brought together 120 Primary and Secondary students from across Tasmania’s North West for a day of competitive chess.
Our students competed exceptionally well, with the team finishing 3rd in the Primary Division out of seven schools. Congratulations to Vivaan, who achieved an outstanding result by finishing 1st overall, winning all seven of his games.
Each of our students demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and perseverance throughout the tournament, with many achieving personal best results. We are proud of their efforts and the way they represented our school. Well done to all involved!

We are pleased to advise that expressions of interest are now open for students in Years 4-6 wishing to participate in the NWFL Richardson and Skinner Cup Primary School competitions.
The competitions will commence on Monday 24th August and will be played over a four week period at the Byard Park Twin Ovals, Devonport. Multiple games will be played each week at the central venue, providing students with a fantastic opportunity to participate, develop their skills and have an exciting and enjoyable football experience.
The Richardson Cup is open to boys in Years 4-6 and the Skinner Cup is open to girls in Years 4-6. Both competitions provide a wonderful opportunity for students to:
Represent their school
Play football with friends
Develop their football skills
Learn more about the game in a fun and supportive environment
Enjoy being part of a team environment
Schools are currently being asked to submit their expressions of interest to participate.
As part of the competition requirements, we will need a minimum of 15 players for entry into the competition and each participating school must provide a coach or team co-ordinator to supervise teams at each scheduled round. Match umpiring will be managed by the NWFL and AFL Tasmania, and parent volunteers may be invited to assist with goal umpiring when required.
If your child is interested in participating, please complete the form below by Thursday 23rd July. If we have enough students to form a team, and have some parent volunteers willing to coach or co-ordinate the team, we will be in touch with the next steps and registration details.

Do you have clean recyclables piling up at home? We would love to give them a second life in STEM!
Now that we've moved back into the STEM centre, we need to refill our crafting stores! We do lots of designing and creating, so we are always happy to receive donations of clean recyclable items throughout the year. If you are about to fill up the recycling bin, consider sending some treasures our way instead! They can be dropped off any time to the STEM centre.
Thank you for helping us reduce waste, encourage creativity and provide students with hands-on opportunities to think like engineers and designers!
