Grade 5

Reading

This week, we finished reading Black Cockatoo and students thoroughly enjoyed following the story and discussing the important themes throughout the novel. We explored the characters’ perspectives and reflected on the key messages within the text. Students shared thoughtful responses and made strong connections to the story during class discussions.

Writing

In Writing, students have been learning how to use adverbial phrases to add more detail and interest to their sentences. We have also been experimenting with different sentence types to strengthen our writing and make it more engaging for readers. Students have begun writing a factual recount about Jandamarra and are working hard to include accurate information and strong sentence structures.

Maths

In Maths, we have started learning about 3D shapes and their different properties. Students have been identifying faces, edges and vertices while comparing a variety of prisms and pyramids. We have also explored where 3D shapes can be found in everyday life and how they are used around us.

Camp

Students had an amazing time at camp and should be very proud of the way they represented our school. They demonstrated excellent behaviour, teamwork and resilience throughout all activities. Some of the favourite experiences included the flying fox and canoeing, which students approached with enthusiasm and confidence!
