Library News

Recently we acknowledged NAIDOC week, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy”. Events were held across Australia to celebrate the histories, cultures and achievements of First Nations people. One of the books we have in the library is Buckley’s Chance by Garry Linnell which tells the incredible true story of how a convict William Buckley escaped into the Australian bush in the early 1800s and was adopted by an Aboriginal tribe. Buckley lived with the tribe for 30 years until he emerged into society having forgotten the English language. Obviously Buckley would have had no chance of surviving if he had not been saved by the indigenous people with their rich and complex culture. Today we recognise the precious Legacy of First Nations especially their knowledge of plants and animals.
