The Vinnies Winter Sleepout

Nazareth College Vinnies Winter Sleepout

Friday 22 August, 7:30 PM to Saturday 23 August, 8:00 AM

Join us for the Nazareth College Vinnie’s Winter Sleepout — an overnight event aimed at raising awareness about homelessness and generating funds to support those most disadvantaged in our community.

Homelessness is a widespread and serious issue in Australia — on any given night, 122,494 people in Australia are homeless; however, the number is likely much higher given the number of people not recorded as “no fixed address” and the increasing impact of a tight rental market.

23% experiencing homelessness are aged between12-24 yrs old

Come together to stand in solidarity with those experiencing homelessness and make a difference this winter.

Numbers are capped at 50 participants, so if you want to be a part of this social Justice activity, please sign up with Ms Douglass in the Resource Centre.

Please read the attached document for all details of the night.

If anyone would like to support the students by making a donation, the link is below.

Comfy Clothes Day

A further initiative introduced last year is the Comfy Clothes Day. Students are invited to come to school on Friday 22 August, in comfortable clothing for a $3 donation, collected by their Pastoral teacher. Clothing might include Oodies, Onesies, tracksuits etc.

All monies raised go towards supporting Mental Health, which we know is closely linked to Homelessness.

Any number of factors can contribute to a person’s experience of mental ill health, particularly economic stresses such as unemployment and homelessness, and social factors including family and domestic violence, discrimination and exclusion, loneliness and social isolation. Minor mental health problems can develop into more significant illnesses, and this can have monumental negative impacts upon every component of a person’s work, social and family life. People experiencing significant mental illness can find it difficult to maintain employment, stable housing, connection to loved ones, and even physical health.

We thank the Nazareth Community for supporting our fundraising efforts.
