What's Happening in Term 4 in the Specialist Programs

Visual Art
We have an exciting and creative final term ahead in Visual Arts at Beaumaris Primary! Students will explore a range of printmaking, drawing, painting and art techniques, developing their understanding and application of the elements and principles of art.
Across the term, students will investigate concepts including colour, line, shape, texture, space, pattern, repetition and unity, while experimenting with different materials, tools, techniques and processes. These experiences support the students in developing their ability to explore and express ideas, apply visual arts practices, present their artworks and respond to and interpret the work of artists.
We will begin the term with some fun and imaginative Halloween inspired artworks, before moving into a variety of printmaking experiences. Students will learn how artists use repetition, pattern, texture and colour to communicate ideas and create visual impact.
As the year draws to a close, we will finish with a range of festive Christmas art activities, providing students with an opportunity to celebrate their creativity, reflect on the skills they have developed throughout the year and look forward to new artistic adventures in 2027.

Prep
Foundation students will begin the term by sharing their own art experiences and responding to a range of artworks through class discussions. They will celebrate Halloween by creating a Gustavo inspired ghost painting, exploring pattern and repetition. Students will then be introduced to monoprinting, discovering how an image can be transferred to paper to create a unique print. They will explore the work of artist Clare Youngs as inspiration for a colourful fruit themed project. They will finish the year celebrating a Christmas art activity and the beginning of a new year. These experiences connect student's ideas and imagination, experiment with materials and techniques, create and display artworks and respond to artworks they make and view.
Year 1
Year 1 students will begin Term 4 with a colourful Halloween project inspired by the vibrant artwork of Romero Britto. Students will design pumpkins using bold colours, shapes, repeated patterns and symbols. They will then explore a variety of printmaking techniques and create a collection of printed papers. These papers will become part of a larger art project, giving students opportunities to explore how artists can transform and combine materials. Students will create animal artworks inspired by Eric Carle, experimenting with printing tools and techniques that produce repeated patterns, textures and shapes. The term will conclude with a festive art activity celebrating Christmas and the students' creativity, achievements and the exciting year of learning they have shared.
Year 2
Year 2 students will have the opportunity to celebrate Halloween through an exploration of the vibrant artwork of Romero Britto, founder of the Happy Art Movement. Inspired by Britto’s use of bold patterns, shapes and contrasting colours, students will create their own colourful Halloween pumpkins. Students will then explore the work of Jasper Johns, using his artwork as inspiration to create a variety of printed papers. They will investigate a range of art elements and principles through printmaking and craft projects. Throughout these experiences, students will develop their understanding of printmaking techniques and experiment with a variety of found and student created tools to produce unique prints and designs. To conclude the year, students will embrace the festive season through engaging in a Christmas themed art project.
Year 3
Year 3 students will begin the term with a Halloween inspired sugar skull artwork, exploring pattern, colour, line and shape. Students will then develop their printmaking skills by investigating a variety of techniques, including foam etching, transfers and printing plates. They will experiment with different processes and discover how changes to materials, tools and pressure can create different visual effects. Through these projects, students will combine elements of art such as colour, line, space and shape to develop their own creative ideas. The term will finish with a Christmas themed art project celebrating the end of another wonderful year.
Year 4
Year 4 students will continue developing their ability to combine the elements and principles of art in their own creative work, with a particular focus on colour, line, shape and unity. Students will mark Halloween by creating a ghostly monochromatic forest artwork, exploring how different shades and tones of a single colour can create atmosphere and visual impact. They will then investigate printmaking techniques and experiment with the design and use of printing plates, developing greater control and confidence with printmaking processes. To finish the year, students will create a Christmas inspired artwork while consolidating and celebrating the skills and techniques they have developed throughout 2026.
Year 5
Year 5 students will begin the term by creating a high contrast Halloween portrait art inspired by Jean-Michel Basquiat by exploring positive and negative space, symmetry and personal symbolism. Students will then extend their understanding of the elements and principles of design while experimenting with a range of printmaking techniques and processes. A particular focus will be transferring printing, where students will investigate how images and designs can be transferred between surfaces to create interesting visual effects. The term will conclude with a Christmas art project, providing students with an opportunity to apply and consolidate the artistic skills they have developed throughout the year.
Year 6
Year 6 students will begin their final term of primary school Visual Arts with a Damien Hirst inspired skull artwork, exploring colour, pattern and visual impact. They will then investigate the world of Street Art, considering how artists use public spaces, symbols, colour, typography and imagery to communicate ideas. Students will design and decorate their own legacy basketball, incorporating a combination of painting, printmaking and stenciling techniques. This project will provide students with opportunities to make artistic choices, experiment with different processes and develop an individual visual style. As their time in primary school draws to a close, Year 6 students will finish the term with a Christmas art activity and reflect on their artistic journey throughout their primary years.
We are looking forward to a colourful, creative and exciting final term in the Art Room!

Christmas Carols
The whole school will dedicate time during Performing Arts lessons to learning, rehearsing and preparing their year-level Christmas Carols, ready to share with the school community on Wednesday of Week 10.
Following the wonderful success of last year’s performance, we are also seeking expressions of interest from parents who would like to be part of our Parents’ Choir.
If you love to sing and would like to join us, please contact Brittany Pholi via the school office. The plan is to hold a few, short, after-school rehearsals throughout the term, with the choir performing one song at the Christmas Carols event.
If there is enough interest, further information about rehearsals and the selected song will be shared.
Glee Club, Grade 3 Choir & Morning Melodies
Our optional singing groups will return this term, with a range of exciting performance opportunities ahead for both Glee Club and the Grade 3 Choir.

Bayside Dance Off
Following a successful 2026 competition, we will once again be participating in the Bayside Dance Off!
The competition is a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase their creativity, dance skills and choreography. Students will work independently to create their own two-minute dance routine, without adult assistance.
Groups can include 2–6 students, with judges considering choreography, costumes and stage presence.
We will hold in-school heats for each age group during Weeks 5 and 6. More information and competition details will be shared with students early in the term. If you have any questions, please reach out to Brittany Pholi via the Beaumaris inbox.
I am looking forward to finishing the year with an incredible Term 4 full of music, creativity, collaboration and some very special performances!
Be good and be good at it!

Physical Education
Another big Term in PE, we had a fun and exciting day at our House athletics carnival. All year 4 to 6 students went to Sandringham athletics track to challenge for the house trophy and trial for the athletics team.
