Main Campus - Year 4

Dear Lovely Year 4 Families,

A lot has happened in two weeks! 

The last two rounds of activities at Carlsruhe were a massive hit. The students planted rainbow silverbeet and carrots. YUM. In cooking, students made rhubarb and coconut slice, and a frittata with greens from the garden. All delicious and were eaten very quickly. 

Unfortunately, one of our new chickens passed away last week. We had a veterinarian attend to examine the chicken, and we are pleased to confirm that it was not infected with avian influenza (bird flu). The remainder of our flock are healthy and continue to be happy and well. The classroom teachers spoke with students about the loss of the chicken in an age-appropriate way. You may also wish to take the opportunity to talk with your child about this at home, should they have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your understanding and support. RIP Corn.

The students at the Carlsruhe campus have been busy over the last two weeks. We have had more Thursday activities, which have been a massive success. The frittata the kids made last week was amazing!! So yummy. The students continued with their quilling, weaving and drawing. The gardening group planted some parsley and made signs to match. We AGAIN want to thank the parents volunteers for helping with this. Early next term we will send another call out for parent helpers for the Term 4 activities so stay tuned.

In English, we have wrapped up our Persausive Unit. The students presented their speeches in class, receiving feedback from the teacher and students. We have moved onto our new English unit of procedural texts. All classes have been busy making origami and writing a procedure to match. It’s been very tricky but the students have shown resilience and perseverance with it. Attached are some photos of 4AD’s efforts.

In Maths, we finished up our Multiplication and Division Unit and have now moved onto our Time Unit. The students are working on telling time to the minute and elapsed time. 

Yesterday they participated in Mathslympics and the day was a great success. The students participated in many activities. A fun day was had by all!

Students in 4BE have moved back to school this week. 4AD have successfully transitioned back to the Carlsruhe campus. They are looking forward to meeting all of the new animals!

URGENT: We have lots of gaps for the animal roster (from 4AD and 4KR). We REALLY need someone to cover the first week of the holidays and lots of spots next term. The link to the roster has been sent a few times. Please put your name down if you can help out. We would really appreciate it (so would the animals).
