School Production: Everything is Everywhere

A massive congratulations to the 58 students from across the College who worked tirelessly every Friday until 5pm for 15 weeks to create a student led, original performance for our school community. They did this alongside the incredible not-for-profit organisation, Western Edge Youth Arts, who support young people in our community to be creative and grow in safe and inclusive spaces. This is a performance where they included their own personal stories and life experiences to share with our community. They also worked every day during performance week within the dress rehearsal process - including from 9am to 7:30pm on Wednesday and Thursday performance nights.

Not only did we have students act on stage, but we had a number of students who were also backstage, working as stage managers, lighting and sound technicians who were the backbone of the performance. This performance was truly a creation of our own students' creativity and hard work.

Our whole College and everyone who attended our two sold out (and overflowing!!) shows are incredibly proud of all students involved. They did a beautiful job!

The school production is a massive undertaking that could not be possible without the dedication of our staff. A huge thank you to Mr Polizzi, Senior Drama Teacher and Ms Ellis, Junior Drama Teacher for organising the production, supporting students to be their best and working long hours for several months to bring us an amazing show. Thank you to the Art, Music and Food Tech teams for the use of your equipment, and for allowing the music room to be used as the 'backstage' during performance week.

Thank you to our canteen ladies for opening up the canteen after hours for patrons to get coffee and cake and assisting us with organising dinner for the students.

Thank you to Nurse Jocelyn and the Wellbeing team for looking out for our students and providing foodbank every Friday and through production week.

Thank you to the front office Admin team for the million emails dealing with logistics and buses over the space of 15 weeks.

Thank you to the Principal team who have always been supportive of the relationship between our school and Western Edge, and in allowing our students to flourish in the Performing Arts.

Our school productions here at VUSC are always built upon our core values, and are one of the cross campus events which involve absolutely everyone - demonstrating what a great community we have.

Looking forward to seeing you all for next year's 2027 school production!

Year 12 VCE VM Projects

Thank you to everyone in our school community who supported the Year 12 VCE VM Personal Development Skills projects over the past four weeks by donating cans, clothing and toiletries. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, has helped our students work towards making a positive difference in the community. The cans collected have been returned through the container refund scheme, and the funds raised will be used to purchase additional toiletries and other basic essentials for people in Melbourne experiencing homelessness. We are grateful for your generosity and support, and for helping our students bring these projects to life.

Here is one example of a generous donation we received for the Winter Clothing Drive. One generous member of our school community kindly donated a bag filled with beautifully hand-knitted baby beanies! This thoughtful gift will provide warmth and comfort to babies in need.

Thanks again to all for your support.

Year 11 VCE Chemistry in Action at the University of Melbourne

Last term, our Year 11 VCE Chemistry students stepped beyond the classroom and into a university laboratory as part of the University of Melbourne’s Chemistry Enrichment Program.

Students took part in a hands-on UV–Visible Spectroscopy Water Analysis Workshop, where they used modern scientific equipment to investigate the concentration of substances such as copper, iron, phosphate and nitrate in real water samples.

The workshop gave students the opportunity to experience how chemistry is used to investigate environmental issues and monitor water quality. They developed practical skills in spectroscopy, data collection and data interpretation while applying concepts from Unit 2 Chemistry to a real-world investigation.

It was an exciting opportunity for students to work in a university setting, explore analytical chemistry and gain insight into how chemists use technology to solve real-world problems.
