Principal's Message

Throughout the start of Term 3, it has been wonderful to see students return from the holidays refreshed and ready to begin another busy and productive semester. The two-week break provided students with an opportunity to reflect on their achievements and efforts during Semester 1 and recharge for the remainder of the year.

This term is particularly significant for our Year 12 students, who have now entered their final full term of secondary schooling. They will complete their Unit 4 SACs and SATs and begin preparing for their final examinations early next term. We wish all Year 12 students every success as they work towards completing their studies and preparing for their next steps beyond VUSC.

Course counselling is now underway with students selecting their courses and subjects for next year. This term we begin planning for classes in 2027. If you will be moving out of the area and/or your child will not be attending VUSC next year, we ask that you inform your campus office or Year Level Coordinator as soon as possible.

Semester 1 Exams

During June, students in Years 7–11 completed their Semester 1 examinations. The examination process provided students with an opportunity to demonstrate their learning, reflect on their progress and develop important study and examination skills.

Year 12 students completed their Semester 1 examinations in the last week of Term 2. These examinations provided an important opportunity for students to consolidate their learning and prepare for the final stages of their VCE studies.

Music Camp

From Tuesday 16 June to Friday 19 June, more than 150 students and staff attended the annual Music Camp at Rutherford Park. Under the leadership of Robert Breen, Head of Music, students from eight College ensembles rehearsed major repertoire in preparation for upcoming performances and competitions.

Throughout the camp, students participated in full ensemble rehearsals, instrument sectionals and collaborative workshops to strengthen their individual musicianship and ensemble skills. Thank you to the Music staff for their outstanding organisation, leadership and commitment, and to students for their excellent work ethic and dedication.

Junior School Soiree

The Junior School Soiree was held on Tuesday 23 June and featured the first performances of the 2026 Year 7 Concert Band and Jazz Band, as well as outstanding performances from Year 8 and 9 students across woodwind, brass, percussion, voice and guitar ensembles. The event showcased the continued growth and success of the College’s music program. Well done to these students for an amazing evening!

Victorian Schools Music Festival

This term our music students will be competing in a number of events as part of the Victorian Schools Music Festival:

1. Year 8 Concert Band – Tuesday 11th August

2. Honours Band - Thursday 20th August

3. Year 9 Concert Band – Friday 21st August

4. Stage Band – Tuesday 1st September

5. Jazz Band - Wednesday 2nd September

6. Big Band - Friday 4th September

7. Choir - Tuesday 8th September

We wish all of our music ensembles all the best for their performances. A huge thanks to our Music Leader, Robert Breen and his team for working so hard to bring out the best in our music students and giving them multiple opportunities to gain valuable experience in performing.

Year 10 Career Panels

On Thursday 18 June, Year 10 students participated in Career Panels organised by Kristy Muratore, Careers Coordinator. The event featured 30 guest presenters, including university representatives, TAFE providers, Head Start, apprenticeship networks, past students and industry professionals.

Students gained valuable insights into different career journeys, pathways and future opportunities through discussions with presenters during Inquiry classes.

Year 11 Red Frogs Party Safe Program

On Wednesday 24 June, Kimberly Emtsis, Student Wellbeing Leader, organised the Red Frogs Party Safe Program in partnership with Red Frogs Australia.

The program provided Year 11 students with practical strategies to identify risks in social situations and make informed decisions to keep themselves and others safe. Through real-life experiences shared by Red Frogs volunteers, students explored issues relating to alcohol, drugs and social responsibility, supporting them to make safe and responsible choices.

Storm Cup Final

2026 has been a fantastic year for our VUSC Rugby League Academy. From the commencement of our Girls Academy Program to all JNR squads winning the 9s State Finals, it has been a very productive year thus far. However, a huge stand out this year has been our U18s Senior Boys Squad making the Grand Final of the Victorian NRL Storm Cup which was held on Thursday 25 June, providing students with an opportunity to demonstrate teamwork, sportsmanship and College pride.

Regardless of the result not going our way, our students prepared and played with true VUSC spirit. The time outside of school hours to work on their craft was rewarding to see and it was an amazing night with lots of support from staff, family, and other students.

We would like to congratulate our Year 12s playing their last year in the Victorian Schoolboy Academy Competition. Now we are excited to open the doors for a new 2027 VUSC squad next year!

School Production – Everything is Everywhere

On Wednesday 22 July and Thursday 23 July, the College presented its 2026 school production, Everything is Everywhere. The production was coordinated by our Senior Drama teacher, Jonathan Polizzi in partnership with Western Edge Youth Arts, with support from Junior Drama teacher, Annette Ellis and staff across the College. A total of 58 students worked for 15 weeks to create an original, student-led performance incorporating their own stories and experiences.

The two sold-out performances showcased exceptional creativity, collaboration and student leadership. Students contributed not only as performers but also through backstage roles including stage management, lighting and sound production. Thank you to all staff and teams who supported this significant whole-school community event, and well done to all of the students who were involved - amazing efforts all round!

Parent–Teacher Interviews

Parent–Teacher Interviews for all students will be held on Tuesday, 18th August from 1:00pm to 7:00pm.

We encourage all parents and guardians to take this opportunity to meet with teachers and discuss their child’s progress. Students are expected to attend the interviews with their parents so they can take an active role in discussing their learning and setting goals for further improvement or challenge in each subject.

On this day, only Year 12 VCE students and Year 11 VCE students studying a Unit 3 & 4 subject are required to attend school for Periods 1–3, according to their timetable. There will be no regular classes for Years 7–11 students who are not studying a Unit 3 & 4 subject.

Further information can be found in the next week or two on your Compass Newsfeed. To book your child’s interviews, please log into the Compass Portal and follow the booking instructions.
