Principals Report

Dear Parents, Families and Friends,

As many of you are now aware, Catholic Education Sandhurst yesterday announced the decision that St Mary’s Primary School, Inglewood, will close at the conclusion of the 2026 school year, despite growing enrolments for 2027. This news brings with it a deep sense of sadness for our entire community. For generations, St Mary’s has been far more than a school building, it has been a place of faith, belonging, learning and connection for countless families across Inglewood and beyond.

While this announcement is understandably emotional, I want to reassure our families that St Mary’s remains a vibrant and caring learning community for the remainder of 2026. Our students will continue to be supported with the same dedication, warmth and high expectations that have always defined our school. Teaching and learning programs, wellbeing supports, special events and celebrations will continue, and our focus remains firmly on ensuring every child feels safe, valued and supported during this time.

I acknowledge that today’s announcement may bring many emotions and questions for families, past students, parishioners and the wider community. Over more than 120+ years, St Mary’s has built a proud legacy grounded in Catholic education, strong relationships and community spirit. We honour the Presentation Sisters who established the school in 1860s, the many principals, parish priests, staff and volunteers who have shaped our story, and the generations of families who have entrusted St Mary’s with the education of their children.

I would also like to sincerely thank our staff for the extraordinary care, professionalism and commitment they continue to show our students and families. Even in difficult moments, their dedication to our children remains unwavering.

In the weeks and months ahead, there will be opportunities to celebrate the rich history, memories and impact of St Mary’s School. It is important that we take time to honour what this community has meant to so many people and recognise the lasting legacy it leaves within Inglewood.

As Principal, I remain incredibly proud of our school community. The kindness, resilience and support already being shown to one another reflects exactly what makes St Mary’s so special. We will walk through this next chapter together with compassion, dignity and hope.

Please know that my door remains open to families who may wish to talk, seek clarification or simply connect during this time.

Kind Regards,
