Student News

Mother’s Day was a wonderful celebration at St Mary’s, filled with joy, connection and special memories shared between students and their loved ones. Families enjoyed a BBQ breakfast before gathering for a beautiful student-led liturgy where students read, sang and offered blessings to their parents and special role models. We were also treated to a touching video reflection showcasing how our students see their mothers and role models as everyday superheroes.

Following the liturgy, families participated in two hands-on activities together. Students proudly shared personalised cheeseboards they had spent the past two weeks preparing, sanding and polishing. Families also created concrete stepping stones together — a lasting keepsake to remember this special day at St Mary’s.

A special thank you to our neighbour Ken Nott for the enormous amount of work he put into preparing the cheeseboards, and to the Coffey family for generously donating the wood. Their support helped make this experience possible for our students and families. Our staff also went above and beyond in creating meaningful opportunities that strengthen the connection between school, family and community. We would love to see even more parents, carers and family friends join our Parents and Friends committee to help prepare for Father’s Day celebrations later in the year.

Foundation - Grade 2 Literacy

InitaLit F:

Over the last 2 weeks, the Foundation students have been introduced to 3 new sounds, including /o/, /c/ and /d/. The students have learnt how to articulate the sound, write the letter and read words that include these new sounds! They have also been introduced to their first three tricky words of the year! These words include 'my', 'the', 'I', 'a' and 'is' and we have been practicing these words every day when we enter and exit the classroom. We are doing some awesome work with our reading and writing!

InitaLit 1:

"Jump, Jump's an action word

Action words, Action words, what are they called?

They're called verbs!"

We have been learning all about verbs in InitaLit 1 and what types of words we can use as a verb. This has been one of our favourite chants to practice in the classroom as we can also do the verb at the same time. Students have also learnt about two long vowel's over the last two weeks. The first being 'ee' (feet) and 'ea' (leaf) and the next being 'oa' (boat). We have really worked hard on these sounds in our reading and writing.

Year F-6 Indonesian

"Saya suka nangka!"    "Saya tidak suka rambutan!"    "Saya suka sekali manggis!!"

Students had a taste test of some of the fruits of Indonesia with varying opinions on their tastiness! All were encouraged to try at least one and were then asked to say whether they liked it (Saya suka..), did not like it (Saya tidak suka...) or REALLY liked it (Saya suka sekali..) in Indonesian. Manggis was the clear favourite!
