MATHS MATTERS AT MPS
Welcome to our newsletter pages which we hope will encourage families to focus on mathematical thinking and learning whilst having fun!
Milo from Year 2, Harvey & Aara from Year 3, Anna & Charlie from Year 4, Tess & Eden from Year 5 and Henry & Jude from Year 6 are providing the tasks for this initiative. They will provide you with interesting facts, engaging problem-solving tasks and some mind-blowing challenges. They hope that families and students will work together on these and have fun as they look for multiple approaches to solving problems. Solutions will be shared in the next fortnight’s newsletter.
This week, some of the maths questions relate to the Class Reward Jars, which are designed to reinforce the SWPBS values each week.

The Invisible Squirrel
There was once a girl named Lizzy. One day when she was walking her dog she stumbled across a gigantic tree! Lizzy screeched, as she looked at the tree she saw the wood sparkle. She looked up at the leaves, they were gold, with tiny bugs crawling over them. There were flowers of all colours, Lizzy climbed the tree to get closer to the flowers, she touched a petal…
One hour later Lizzy opened one eye. She could not believe it, she was a squirrel! She reached out her paw and touched the flower petal again, the flower turned into a whole load of codes! Can you help Lizzy figure them out?
