Interschool Sport Finals

Our Volleyball and Hot Shots teams recently represented Athol Road Primary School at the Interschool Sport Finals. We are incredibly proud of the way our students supported one another, demonstrated great sportsmanship and gave their best throughout the day. Read on to hear about the experience from the students themselves!
Volleyball
Written by Tepaka, Trum, Nelson N and Ayaan - Year 6
On Friday 23rd October, our Athol Road Primary School volleyball teams travelled to Dandenong South Primary School to compete in an exciting volleyball tournament against the other Greater Dandenong Division winning schools. Both our boys’ and girls’ teams represented our school with enthusiasm, determination and fantastic teamwork.
The boys’ team got off to a flying start, defeating Rosewood Downs PS in both sets. They then faced their toughest challenge of the day, Sirius College. The boys started strongly, taking an early 2–0 lead, with some excellent serving from Nathan N and impressive teamwork across the court. One of the highlights was a brilliant set from Nelson N to Gordon, who launched himself into the air and smashed the ball into the centre of the court, sending teammates cheering with excitement!
Although the boys narrowly lost their match against Sirius College, they had plenty to celebrate at the end of the tournament. Our Athol Road mixed team was announced as the overall tournament winner, securing a place at the regional competition! This is an outstanding achievement, and we look forward to seeing the team continue their success at the next stage.
Our girls’ team also demonstrated wonderful resilience and sportsmanship throughout the day. They faced Wooranna Park PS in their opening match before taking on Sirius College. Despite some challenging matches, the girls continued to encourage one another, celebrate their successes and give their best effort right until the final point.
There were several individual contributions worth celebrating. Lydia impressed with an incredible five aces from her serves, while Trum provided strong leadership throughout the competition. Hannah and Tepaka brought their positive “we can do it” attitude, and Kealyn and Mellina helped keep team spirits high. All the girls deserve recognition for their hard work, determination and commitment to supporting one another.
Both teams should be extremely proud of the way they represented Athol Road. The tournament was a wonderful opportunity to develop their volleyball skills, build confidence and demonstrate the importance of teamwork, perseverance and sportsmanship.
Congratulations to all our volleyball players on a fantastic effort. We are proud of you!
Hot Shots
Written by Aarna and Paula - Year 6
Our tennis team had a brilliant day at Heatherhill PS, successfully securing a spot in the Hot Shots finals after an exciting round of matches with other schools. The girls were completely unstoppable on the court, showing fantastic skill as they won every single one of their matches to lead the team to victory. On the other side of the competition, the boys faced some incredibly tough opponents and unfortunately lost all of their matches, though they put up an excellent fight and never gave up. Because the girls won everything and the boys lost, the overall score ended in a tie, so it went down to counting the individual points to find the winner. In the end, we still lost but we had so much fun and we were proud of what we accomplished.
