Term One
What a busy term this has been, just like any other first term. Junior Band and Junior Strings are both up and running and looking great for the first concert next term, as are all the other ensembles.
Congratulations and thank you to the students who managed to get to their lessons and ensemble rehearsals regularly and on time.
Just a reminder that holidays are a good time for students to play their instruments and have fun with them. With the Autumn Concert early in Term 2, students need to do some practice to ensure they perform at their best.

Music Students Shine!
Over the weekend three of our music students, Emily, Cody and Benji, took part in a community choir concert at the Bairnsdale Uniting Church. Cody and Emily were both part of a saxophone quartet with James and Lynette Newman, performing two sets of pieces. Emily performed a solo on her saxophone and Benji played his own piano composition, Penguins, accompanied by a beautiful film of penguins. Our students were very well received by the audience with many commenting on their outstanding and professional performances.
Music Uniforms
In week 3 next term we have the Autumn Concert. Holidays are a good time to see that students have the appropriate performance attire. All students in the music program are given a red music shirt to use while they are in the program. This can be traded in as students grow and is handed back when they leave the program. This shirt needs to be worn with black pants or skirt, and fully black shoes and socks. We prefer longer skirts and tights worn over bare legs. Our school concerts are formal, so we like students to be well presented. Holidays are a good time to scour the opportunity shops, check out k-mart or see what items can be borrowed from family members.
Learning Tasks
All instrumental music students complete their first learning task this term and early Term 2. This first task is a technical work one. Students are required to prepare and perform selected scales, arpeggios or other technical tasks and perform them. It is a reminder to students that technical work forms the basis of a good instrumental music technique and should be part of everyday practice.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Because our music staff are all part time, most are not available to do parent/teacher conferences. If families would like to speak with a music teacher, arrange a time directly with the teacher. Also feel free to come and say hello after ensemble rehearsals.
Music Enrolments
There are still places available on selected instruments. Interested students are encouraged to go to the music centre during break time and discuss options with the music staff. Why not come and try the flute or clarinet?
