Spirit of Sport Award
On behalf of the Bairnsdale Secondary College Sports Team and the wider school community, it was a privilege to except this award that honoured our Interschool Sports Teams from 2025. Our student behaviours, interactions with other schools and sportsmanship at state level, were voted by other schools on the days of competition to be awardees. We are thrilled to see our students recognised for their exemplary standards when competing on behalf of the College, well done.
East Gippsland Volleyball
Held at the BARC, there were 27 matches played throughout the day with Swifts Creek, Mallacoota, Lakes Entrance, Nagle and BSC all fielding teams. The Volleyball Associations umpires did an amazing job umpiring so many matches in such a short time frame, which was appreciated by all teams. Our Senior Mixed and Intermediate Girls teams had success to win their way through to regional level next term. It was so encouraging to watch all our teams, including the Year 7 Girls and the Intermediate Boys, playing well and enjoying the busy competition.
East Gippsland Tennis
The Intermediate team went up against Nagle College at the Bairnsdale Tennis Club. Close games provided our students a chance to really push themselves throughout the competition only narrowly missing out on qualifying for regional competition. Both sides had a great hit out and the chance to build on a sport that could possibly increase in popularity at our College.
East Gippsland Lawn Bowls
Monday brought our Junior and Senior Lawn Bowls teams sunny and calm conditions to play at the Bairnsdale Bowls Club. After a couple of late cancellations, Lakes Entrance Secondary fielded a junior and senior team to level the field. The spirit and quality of the games were fabulous, with lots of banter and support for one another. Fortunately, both of our teams won convincingly to progress through to Gippsland level next term, on Thursday 23rd April. The secondary competition is looking to grow next year, with greater interest in the sport more recently from teenage competitors taking it up. Just last week a 15-year-old won the Open section of the Vic Open held at the Traralgon Bowls Club.
