Onomatopoeia
Bang! Pow! Splat! These are all examples of Onomatopoeia words. Onomatopoeia is the name for words that mirror real-world noises and are used to create sensory, vivid imagery in writing.
In the first week of Term Four, Year 2 students learnt about Onomatopoeia and used these words to write poems. We watched some old Batman clips and read poems such as "The Sound Collector" to understand what Onomatopoeia was and how to use it in our writing. Students then chose a topic to write their own poem about. Their writing certainly popped with creativity!
