Sustainability News

Our Year 6 Sustainability Leaders have been very busy since returning from their break. Over the past two weeks, they have attended assemblies to share an important message about the value of recycling soft plastics.
Soft plastics include the packaging from many of the snack foods we enjoy at lunch and recess. At present, these items are being placed in classroom bins and sent to landfill. The students have learned that soft plastics can take between 15 and 1,000 years to break down, and even then, they do not fully decompose. Instead, they can break down into microplastics that enter our soil and environment.
The Sustainability Team is committed to reducing our soft plastic waste and is working hard to implement a system that will allow our school to recycle these materials more effectively.
Remember: If you can scrunch the plastic into a ball, then it is soft plastic.
