WOW Darebin! (Walk or Wheel Once a Week)

WOW Darebin! (Walk or Wheel Once a Week) is a Darebin Council initiative promoting active travel to primary schools, aiming to reduce traffic congestion and encourage healthy habits, such as walking, cycling, or scooting, particularly on selected days. The program, supported by a facilitator and educational kits, includes a Golden Boot Award for high participation and runs for 8 weeks. 

 

Fridays are going to be our Walk or Wheel to school day this term.

 

It’s starting on Friday 01 May and will run every Friday until the end of Term 2.

 

The class that walks and wheels the most over 8 weeks will win their own Darebin Golden Boot Award PLUS Council will deliver a special reward of pizzas for the winning class!

Key Details of the Program:

  • Goal: Increase active, sustainable transport and improve road safety around schools.
  • Activities: Students track their journeys on classroom wall calendars.
  • Rewards: The class with the highest participation receives a pizza lunch and the Golden Boot Award.
  • Benefits: Improves student health, boosts confidence, and reduces congestion. 

 

The initiative aims to build active, independent habits in young students and encourages parents to join, even if it means parking a little further away and walking the final leg.
