Principal's Report

Education Week

Next week Victorian schools are celebrating Education Week. The aim of the week is to celebrate all the great things that are happening in our schools. It gives parents, grandparents, and extended family the opportunity to visit their child’s classroom and see them and their classmates at work.

This year’s theme is Showcase Your School, highlighting the people, places, and learning opportunities that make every school unique.

All classrooms will be open for families to visit on Wednesday May 20th between 2.40pm and 3.30pm. We hope that lots of people join us.

Building Works

The large mounds of dirt have been removed and most of the turf under the COLA has been reinstated. We do still have some small mounds of dirt on the site as they are currently installing the underground services.  The southern end of the oval will remain part of the siteworks until the new play equipment has been installed.

Industrial Action

The negotiation between the AEU and the government is currently continuing. As a result, the AEU called off the planned half day stop work for a two week period. At this stage we have not heard if the rolling stop works will resume next week. If they do, our area is scheduled to stop work on Tuesday May 19.

If it does go ahead and all of our AEU members stop work, only students whose parents are essential service employees be able to attend school between 8.45am and 12.40pm. All students will be able to arrive at school at 12.40pm.

I will send out further information on Compass as soon as I am notified what is happening

Uniform

As the cold weather approaches, I have noticed some students wearing black or white long sleeved tops under their short sleeved polos and dresses.

This is not part of our school uniform and should not be worn.

Our uniform is a colour based uniform so only royal blue and gold items are permitted. The only exception is students can wear navy blue tights with a dress or pinafore.

Our Student Dress Code Policy is on the School website.   Dress Code

Riding to School

We strongly encourage students to ride to school every day if they can, however they must abide by the road rules.

All students must wear a helmet and ride safely at all times.

I ask that parents discuss with their children the protocols for riding bikes and scooters. While children are permitted to ride on the footpath, they must show respect to the pedestrians who are walking on the footpaths. Simply ringing their bell does not give them permission to ride through groups of pedestrians. We need to ensure that both riders and pedestrians are safe at all times.

Prep 2027

We are currently in the process of running our Prep Information tours. If you have a child who is due to start school in 2027 could you please contact our enrolment coordinator Michelle Garvey at michelle.garvey@education.vic.gov.au.

If you have any family or friends who have a child starting school (Preston PS) in 2027 please let them know they can book a tour. The information on how to book is on our school website.

Mothers' Day

I hope all of our mothers loved the beautiful gift and card their child made them to celebrate Mothers' Day. Each of the year levels made different gifts for their mums. I hope all of our mums and grandmothers had an enjoyable day on Sunday.
