Changes to parent communication regarding student achievement
At our College, we place a strong emphasis on recognising and celebrating students who are achieving at a high level, while also providing additional support for those experiencing significant challenges. To keep parents and guardians informed, we use letters of commendation and letters of concern when a student’s progress falls within these areas.
However, we recognise that students who are progressing steadily “in the middle” are not always acknowledged as clearly or as regularly as they deserve. Every student’s progress is important, and it is therefore essential that parents and guardians are kept informed so they can monitor changes to their child’s progress across subjects and celebrate their child’s achievements alongside them.
To address this, we will be trialling a new approach to sharing information about student achievement. This will involve parents receiving a subject-based Task Mark Report that outlines their child’s individual assessment information. This system is designed to provide more consistent, meaningful updates about how students are progressing across their learning, ensuring that all students' efforts are recognised.
We see this as an important step in strengthening communication between school and home, and in supporting every student’s growth.
As this is a trial, we welcome your feedback. Your insights will help us refine and improve the process to ensure it best meets the needs of our students and families. Thank you for your ongoing support.
