Upstander Reports and Disclosures

In recent days, some members of our school community have sought clarity on how parents and students can report concerning behaviour, whether this be something witnessed by their young person, something perpetrated towards the young person – ie bullying/harassment, or something causing the young person concerns throughout their school day that is impacting on their safety or mental health and wellbeing or that of a peer/friend.

There are several avenues for reports to be shared, most important of which would be to liaise with the key teaching staff such as Pastoral Care Teachers, Heads of House and our wider Wellbeing and Pastoral teams directly, including our Director of Pastoral Care: Kim Rowlands; krowlands@mackillop.tas.edu.au, College Counsellors: Tylisha Crawford: tcrawford@mackillop.tas.edu.au or Chantelle McAlonan:

Outlined below are details for accessing our Upstander Link via SEQTA:

Upstander Report

If your young person is experiencing ongoing concerns with a peer or has witnessed concerns or unsafe behaviours that another peer is experiencing, they are able to complete the Upstander Link.

The Upstander Link is located on the homepage of all students’ SEQTA pages and prompts the young person to provide the relevant details of the incident or concern. This information is then sent to the relevant staff to follow up.

The upstander link provides a streamlined process and sets a record of what has occurred and is an efficient way that students can report their concerns. Upstander reports are followed up by the Pastoral Care Team: Deputy Principal Wellbeing, Director of Pastoral Care, College Counsellors and the Heads of House.

Additional avenues of support include speaking to the relevant Pastoral Care teacher. Students may also email either counsellors directly or ask their PCG teacher or Head of House to reach out to the counsellors if required.

Bookings can also be made with our Counsellors via a direct email to them or by calling in to the Wellbeing Centre to have a booking added to the system.
