Billy Button News

JEMIMA SAW, FARISHTA YOUSAFZAI

Spring is here! The garden is growing, the birds are singing, the children are full of energy and we’re getting ready for our Billy Button Spring Festival next week! In Steiner education we endeavour to cultivate children’s connection to the natural world and inspire a sense of wonder for nature. Parents can do this at home by marking the changing seasons through simple activities and craft. Here are a few simple ideas you might like to try during the end of term break.

Take a nature walk together as a family, a simple idea but can be fun for the everyone. You can make a game out of looking for signs of spring, tracks of animals or their habitats. If you have older children, consider finding a new trail to explore or a challenging new hike.

Many children delight in making fairy and gnome houses, in back yards, on bush walks or even inside the home. Help your little ones collect sticks, moss, leaves, rocks, or any natural materials that could be fashioned into a little dwelling.

Watching tiny seeds sprout new life inspires wonder in all of us. Whether you plan to grow a single plant, or start a few seeds for your garden, this is a fun activity for children. One simple option is to grow your own sprouts in a jar. This activity is relatively easy and fast. It takes roughly one week from soaking the seeds to harvesting the sprouts. It may also inspire picky eaters to sample something new!

We are very much looking forward to our Spring Festival next Thursday the 17th of September. Our festival will begin at 9am with a special craft activity in the garden. As per the invitation, please bring a plate of healthy food to share at our feast and some items from nature for the craft activity. The festival will finish at approximately 10.30am and children will then go home with their families for the day. There will be no Billy Button on Friday the 18th.

Warmly,

Jemima and Farishta
