College Principal Report

2023

The end of 2023 brings to a close my time as Principal of Keysborough Secondary College. I have been very privileged to have led the school for nine years and I believed that the school is placed to be successful well into the future.

Our students are polite and hardworking, our staff dedicated and parents supportive of the school, all these things are so important to a school being successful.

We have been through some challenging times - 2020 and 2021 in particular - and many of our students continue to experience difficulties academically and socially because of those times but I believe we are doing as well as any school in helping those students overcome these challenges. Throughout all of this they have consistently demonstrated our values of Respect, Excellence and Diversity in all their interactions with each other and with members of our community.

In the time that I have been here there have been many changes to both the teaching and Educational Support staff. One thing that has always been consistent through all these changes is that the education and wellbeing of the students remained the highest importance. Thank you to all of the staff for always putting the students first.

Feedback from parents through the Parent Opinion Survey continues to be pleasing with over 80% of parents responding indicating they were satisfied with the education their child was receiving and that their child felt safe at school

Academically, NAPLAN results show a continuing upward trend in most strands, particularly in Reading which has been an area of focus for us for several years. We currently waiting for the release of VCE results and VCAL completion rates.

On behalf of the College Community and from me personally, I would like to offer my deepest appreciation for all the work that the members of College Council have done this year and the hours they have spent helping set the direction for the College. I would like to make special mention of our Council President Lee-Anne Theodorou for her guidance and leadership this year.

I will always be very proud to have been Principal of this school, I still enjoy coming to work every day and I have no doubt that as much as I will enjoy retirement there will be times when I will miss being here.

I believe the school will be in very good hands when our new College Principal takes over next year, Aaron Sykes is an experienced principal who will lead the school well. Please see his message to the school below

A word from our new College Principal Mr Aaron Sykes

It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I am joining the vibrant and esteemed Keysborough College community as your new principal in 2024. I am deeply honoured to be entrusted with the responsibility of leading this exceptional school community. It is clear from my initial visits that we have highly passionate and dedicated teachers and staff at the school. I aim to lead through collaboration, innovation and growth, fostering an environment where every student's potential is nurtured and celebrated in a culture of high expectations. Students and their wellbeing and academic growth will be at the heart of every decision. I eagerly anticipate getting to know each of you and working closely together to further cultivate the standards of excellence at Keysborough College.
