Junior School Report

As we conclude the academic year, it's time to pause and acknowledge the exceptional efforts of both our students and staff at Keysborough College. Throughout the year, students embraced the challenges presented by their teachers, and their growth academically, socially, and personally has been nothing short of fantastic.

Our students have excelled in various fields, making this academic year one to remember. The school witnessed a breathtaking performance in the musical extravaganza, "Aladdin Jnr," showcasing the immense theatrical talents within our student body. Our College bands competed and won awards at the Victorian Schools Music Festival. Furthermore, our sports teams also made a notable mark, with several teams qualifying for the State championships.

Recognition for outstanding academic achievements continued with numerous students receiving well-deserved accolades for their excellence in both Numeracy and Literacy, as demonstrated through assessments such as NAPLAN and the Australian Mathematics Competition.

The pinnacle of acknowledgment occurred last month at our Year 7-11 College Presentation Evening, hosted at the prestigious Drum Theatre. The event was a resounding success, with more than 150 students from across the college honoured for their efforts and achievements throughout 2023. Recognition spanned across a range of categories including: RED awards, Endeavour awards, Sports awards, Performing Arts awards, Academic awards, Dux of Year level, Scholarships and Community award recipients.

The evening not only celebrated individual student achievement, but also highlighted the collective dedication of our student body and the hard work undertaken by families to support each child toward achieving excellence.

A special mention goes to Anna Pham at the Banksia campus who was awarded the Public Education Foundation - Harding Miller scholarship. This scholarship provides support to girls during Years 9 and 10, with the recipient receiving $2,500 toward their education including a laptop, access to tutoring and support from a learning mentor.

During this term we also formally introduced our 2024 Student leaders at their respective campus Leadership assemblies. The dedication and potential demonstrated by these young leaders was truly commendable, and we look forward to witnessing their positive impact on our school community (Year 7 student leaders will be selected early Term 1).

The concluding weeks of classes have held significant importance for our Junior school students as we seamlessly transitioned into Headstart. Throughout this period, students embraced the opportunity to familiarise themselves with their 2024 teachers, establish connections with new classmates, and engage in enriching learning experiences within their new classes.

In our commitment to smooth transitions, we have diligently conducted various activities to prepare Grade 6 students joining us in 2024 for their journey into college. Our comprehensive transition programs, including Thrive (supporting vulnerable students), TAP (assisting those without primary school peers), and Orientation day, have played a pivotal role in ensuring a positive and inclusive start to their Keysborough College experience.

As we approach the Summer holidays, we encourage our students to explore the fantastic and free opportunities provided by the Greater Dandenong Council. From plays at the Drum Theatre to activities at the Noble Park Aquatic Centre, and outdoor movies, there's something for everyone. More details can be found at: https://www.greaterdandenong.vic.gov.au/school-holiday-activities.

On a note of appreciation, I extend our heartfelt thanks to Mr Sloan for his dedicated service as the Acacia campus Junior School Assistant Principal over the last three years. We look forward to his continued contributions as he assumes the role as the Acacia campus Senior School Assistant Principal in 2024. Additionally, a warm welcome to Ms Batchelor, who will be taking on the role as the Acacia Junior School Assistant Principal for the upcoming year.

As we bid farewell to this academic year, we wish everyone a safe and joyous summer holiday period. Anticipation is high as we look forward to leading the Junior School with renewed enthusiasm and commitment in 2024.
