YEAR 8 CAREERS WORKSHOP

In week 6 of Term 4, year 8’s from both Acacia and Banksia had the opportunity to meet and interact with a variety of alumni via the yr8 Careers Workshop.

Alumni volunteered their time to come in and talk to the year 8s about their career pathways and what decisions and experiences led them to choose the career they are doing now. Each alumni had their own personal stories to share, including details of what their own experiences at Keysborough College were like and how these helped shape some of their decisions.

After the alumni shared their stories, students had the opportunity to chat with the alumni and ask questions. It was fantastic to see how present students were in these discussions, asking some really insightful and interesting questions. The alumni came from a variety of backgrounds and all had interesting pathways which have led them to their decisions today. We had alumni working in politics and law, trades, teaching, business, design, physiotherapy and more.

A huge thank you to our alumni for volunteering their time to come speak to our year 8 students. It is so important for students at the college to be exposed to life outside of school and what happens when you graduate and we are thankful for having alumni who are so generous with their time.

Thank you to Lisa Lawson (2012), Anya Ristic (2018), Angela Avramoska (2017), Sarah Ngo (2022), Dale Pryor (2017), Renata Filipovic (2021), Brodie Ferguson (2019), Monica Ward (2020), Edison Vong (2020), Felicia Nguyen (2019), Nyawid Borom (2019) and Seth O’Donnell (2019).

2023 ARTHUR WILLIAMS JUNIOR CITIZENSHIP AWARD

On Thursday 23rd November the Noble Park - Dingley Rotary Club held their annual Arthur Williams Junior Citizenship Award dinner.

Noble-Park Dingley Rotary club is an organisation which carries out projects in the hopes of bringing people together and giving back to the communities around them.

Every year the rotary club reaches out to the schools within their district to nominate students for the Arthur Williams Junior Citizenship Award. This award is to recognise the efforts of students who demonstrate excellence in their studies, alongside showing a vested interest in giving back to their community by volunteering their time outside of school.

This year, Keysborough College was proud to nominate Toby Chand from Banksia campus, and Aania Salaria from Acacia campus.

Toby is a hard working and respectful year 10 student with a strong work ethic. His active participation in extracurricular activities, willingness to assist peers, and respect for teachers and fellow students further solidify his role as a positive influence in our school and wider community. Toby volunteers his time outside of school hours to coach and train junior basketball teams, passing on his passion and skills to the next generation.

Aania participates in several co-curricular activities including participating in peer tutoring opportunities after school and promoting women in STEM. She is and has been part of ‘Interact Club’, Reading Club, Gaming Club and has volunteered as a guide during College open days. In the broader community, Aania also juggles several volunteer positions including providing administration and translation support at a local doctors office as well as working with teams from Dandenong Youth and Family Services to organise community events. She also participates in Noble Park Community Centre’s ‘Social Hour’, where she expands her social network and understanding of community issues through social games of badminton.

At the awards dinner Toby and Aania were presented their certificates and gifted a watch.  The college is very proud of the efforts of both Toby and Aania. They are great role models for students both in and outside of school and we wish them luck with all their future endeavours.

2023 MULTI DISTRICT INTERACT CONFERENCE

The Interact Club is a branch of the Rotary Club which runs in schools. Fundraisers are run for local and international charities of our choice.

On the 27th of November four Interact Club members had the opportunity to attend the Multi-District Interact Conference at Camberwell Grammar School. This conference was a gathering of multiple Interact clubs from schools around Melbourne to share ideas and learn core skills.

During this conference, we were able to hear from speakers such as an Interact member, a Rotaract (Rotary and Interact) member, and a young aspiring leader. We were able to learn about leadership skills that we can later use in life and during our time in the school Interact club.

Attending this conference gave us the chance to hear from other high school Interact clubs about their future and past projects. Learning about their successes enabled us to branch out on our own ideas for what we might achieve in 2024.

The Interact Club is a great community for students and an excellent way to grow your skills. If you are interested in becoming an Interactor, please do not be hesitant to email Ms Haluwadana or any other members you may know of to share your interest!

TAP & THRIVE PROGRAMS

Over the past three weeks, both campuses have been running two transition programs for selected Grade 6 students, called TAP and THRIVE. These programs are designed to support students to transition into Secondary School. Students had the opportunity to meet new peers, meet the Year 7 TTL/TTM/ ATTM,  make new friendships, learn about life as a Keysborough College student, and participate in fun activities. We look forward to meeting all our 2024 Year 7 students on Orientation Day on Tuesday 12th of December.
