Parent volunteer's yr 1 sleepover only  

We are looking for volunteers for the year 1 sleepover. If you are willing and able to stay overnight or help out during the day with preparations, can you please contact your class teacher.  

 

Chapel/assembly swap 3rd week 7 

Just a reminder that the 1/2 Classes are presenting at Assembly on Thursday 3rd September. This will begin at 8:50am. 

 

Pong-a-thon 

Pong-a-thon is upon us once again on Friday 14th August. A reminder that students can come along in appropriate casual clothes for this day for a gold coin donation toward the cause. 

 

Toys 

A reminder that students should not be bringing toys to school. If they do, we cannot guarantee that they will not get lost or broken.  

 

Year 1 Sleepover 

Please note the change of date to Thursday 24th September. More information will come out about this closer to the time, however, if you are able to assist in any way with this event, please let us know.

Library News 

A reminder that we have Book Week events happening in Week 6. Students come to school dressed up as their favourite book character on Tuesday 25th August. Families are invitedtoJoin us for our free Community breakfast at 8am (free), before the annual book week parade. 

 

Great Book Swap 

In week 7, we will be doing the Great Book Swap instead of the book fair. More details to follow in the coming weeks. 

 

Home Inquiry   

Where do you use maps in your house and car? Can you find an atlas and look at the maps in there. What do you notice. Do you have an old street directory in your house to look at? 

 

Reading: We encourage your child to read every night for 10-15 minutes. Please listen to your child read the decodable books and ask the ‘check for understanding’ questions at the back. Once you have read the ‘decodable book’ 2 or 3 times, please send it back with the recording sheet.  

 

The ‘Interest books' with coloured round stickers on the front may need to be read together.

Christian Studies 

We have continued to explore the story of creation and what responsibility is. We are continuing to delve into the Bible and explore different Bible stories about responsibility. 

 

Writer’s and Reader’s Workshop:  

As authors, we will be exploring the genre of ‘letter writing’. We will be learning about the features of different letters and how to write a letter. As reader’s we will be continuing to explore the features of a page layout and how we can read book different. We will then be focusing on book recommendations for other students in the classroom.  

 

The classes are undertaking the Premier’s Reading Challenge and the Premier’s Be Active Challenge together. Once completed, students will receive a certificate or medal at Assembly next term. 

 

Mathematics:  

We are continuing to consolidate our addition and subtraction strategies as well as continuing to explore maps and positional language related to using maps and pathways. 

 

Unit of Inquiry: Where We Are in Place and Time 

Students are presenting their information about what they have learnt during this unit of inquiry. We will then be moving onto our next unit of inquiry ‘How the World Works’.
