What's Happening In Secondary

GLS Next Gen-2026

For the last couple of months, students from Years 8, 9 and 10 worked together to organise and host three back-to-back GLS Next Gen events. Devonport Christian School has been one of the first groups to run student-led GLS events in Australia. This year, we hosted a 5/6 Incursion (run by the Year 8 students), a Year 10 Flagship Day, and a 7/8 Incursion Event, the last two being run by Year 9/10 students. We invited students and teachers from Launceston Christian School, Newstead Christian College, both Ulverstone and Burnie Leighland campuses, Geneva and our own students as well. Over the three days, we had a total of about 600 students!

Every event was completely student led, with some guidance from Sarah McCutcheon, and Fiona Cochrane from GLS Next Gen, and our very own Mrs Kenzie. We worked tirelessly together to create an incredible leadership event and inspire the next generations to walk their own leadership paths. As our student leaders taught and encouraged the younger generations to lead, we grew in our own leadership as well. NextGen was one of the best possible ways to grow as a leader, and we are all extremely grateful for the extraordinary (and rare) opportunity we’ve got to experience here at DCS. - Alice H.
