Our Prep students had an exciting day of discovery and learning during their excursion to The Hive in Ulverstone! We watched Tycho Went to the Moon in the planetarium and loved learning about space as we travelled amongst the stars.
In the Science Centre, students explored a range of hands-on activities and enjoyed designing, building and racing their own cars. We also visited the Art Museum, where we learned about fascinating fungi and then used our creativity to design our own colourful fungi artworks.
After a busy morning of learning, we enjoyed lunch together followed by a play at the Dinosaur Park, which was a highlight for many students. It was a wonderful opportunity to have fun, explore and play with friends.
The excursion was filled with curiosity, creativity and excitement, and our Prep students were fantastic representatives of our school. We are very proud of the enthusiasm, excellent behaviour and positive attitude they showed throughout the day.

On Friday the Year 1/2 classes ventured to the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery in Launceston. After the long bus ride, we quickly had something to eat before launching into three different activities.
Firstly, we had the chance to spend some time exploring the Bug Exhibition. We got to see bugs under microscopes, draw insects using stencils, make bugs using 3D plastic pieces and see what kind of bug we were using a special camera. After that, we went on a guided tour with Megan called “On the Tracks.” Megan told us about the history of transport in Tasmania and how bikes, carriages, cars and trains have changed over time. Lastly, we had time in the Planetarium watching a show all about space called “The Great Solar System Adventure.” It was fantastic! We also got to see what the night sky in Devonport was going to look like that night.
Then it was time for lunch before boarding the bus to ride back to school. We all had a really great day!!

Everyone loves a maths equation: The sun is out + UV is increasing = It's time for hats!
We have been enjoying some amazing weather recently, and with warmer days arriving and UV levels continuing to rise, it is now time for hats to become a daily part of the school routine.
For the remainder of the year, we require students to wear their school hat whenever they are outside at play. This includes recess, lunch, PE lessons, sport, and any other outdoor activities. To help students be ready for the day, we ask families to please ensure a school hat is packed in their child's bag each morning.
We understand this is a change from our previous practice of requiring hats during Terms 1 and 4. With Term 3 finishing later in the year and UV ratings increasing at present, this is an important step in continuing to care for the health and wellbeing of our students. Thank you for your support as we work together to keep our students safe while they enjoy time outdoors.

As we approach Term 4, it is time to start looking ahead at summer uniform for Primary students in Prep - Year 6. All Primary students are required to wear full summer uniform for Terms 1 and 4 as per our uniform policy. This also includes our ‘Yes Hat, Yes Play’ policy requiring all primary students to wear either our school legionnaire or slouch hat whilst outside.
Please visit our uniform shop (now located in the Central Office) if you require any new uniform items during our office hours, 8:00am-4:00pm.
We also have a range of free donated second-hand uniform available through our uniform store. Pop in and see our lovely admin staff in the Central Office and our team will be happy to show you what is currently in stock. Uniform donations are always welcome and can be left at the Central Office. There is also a DCS Community Uniform Facebook Group for buying, selling or giving away uniforms. Please contact Jasmin at: jasmin.thompson@dcs.tas.edu.au if you wish to get connected into this group.
