RU OK? DAY
On Thursday 10 September, our school will recognise R U OK? Day, a national day of action that reminds us of the importance of checking in with the people around us.
Students will take part in age-appropriate activities focused on kindness, connection, recognising emotions and seeking help. They will learn that a simple question such as “Are you OK?” can let someone know that we care.
Children are not expected to solve another person’s problems. Instead, they can listen, show kindness and tell a teacher, parent, carer or another trusted adult if they are worried about themselves or someone else.
Families can reinforce this message at home by making time for regular conversations, listening without judgement and reminding children about the trusted adults who are available to support them. R U OK?Day is an important reminder, but caring conversations can happen on any day.
A Touch of Yellow for R U OK? Day
During a Student Voice meeting last week, some of our Prep–2 students suggested making R U OK? Day a Touch of Yellow Day, as they felt yellow represented kindness and friendliness.
We loved their thoughtful idea and invite students to add a touch of yellow to their school uniform on R U OK? Day. This could be a yellow ribbon, hair accessory, pair of socks or another small yellow item.
Have a great week!
