Reflection
Sunday 22 June - The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ
This Sunday’s readings and Gospel reflect on what we have received from God through his sacrifice, grace and gifts.
Alleluia, alleluia! I am the living bread from heaven, says the Lord; whoever eats this bread will live forever.’ John 6:51-52
Jesus feeding the five thousand, is a beautiful example of Jesus’ care for the physical needsof others. Jesus final meal with his disciples and his instructions to ‘Do this as a memorial of me’, remind us to care for our spiritual needs not just our physical ones. Jesus’ gift has implications for our life today. Where do we sacrifice for others, where do we care for the physical needs of those around us, where do we care for the spiritual needs of those around us? Our world today is one where we are called to animate God’s love through action, both nourishing our spiritual needs through regular prayer and the physical needs of those around us through sharing our meal, our gifts, our time with those in need.
St Mel’s Parish celebrated St Anthony’s feast day on Sunday. St Anthony’s bread is a reminder to share what we have with those in need. At St Anne’s College we are asking our community to help the Shepparton South St Vincent de Paul Conference with their urgent request for basic hygiene supplies.
