Library News

Recently the library promoted Sherlock Holmes Day with displays of mystery and crime books. Sherlock Holmes, created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is still influencing crime writers today, even though the character was created over a hundred years ago. Many modern crime writers have been inspired by Sherlock Holmes who was one of the first detectives to use science to solve crimes. Mystery stories offer a fun mental challenge for our young readers with the thrill of suspense where a crime or a secret needs solving. Teenagers seem to enjoy crime fiction as they often feature young characters who outsmart adults as they involve high stakes, big secrets and a race against time. We have the “Young Sherlock” series of young adult thriller novels featuring Sherlock Holmes as a teenager in the 1860’s and 1870s who is faced with numerous mysteries and crimes.
