Excursions & Incursions
At St Peter’s College, we remain committed to offering our students meaningful, real-world learning experiences that enrich classroom instruction and foster personal development. Over the past fortnight, students across both campuses participated in a range of excursions and incursions aligned with their respective courses and learning outcomes.
Year 11 Vocational Major – Visit to Lysterfield Lake and SynRadio (Cranbourne Campus) As part of their Personal Development Skills and literacy programs, Year 11 Vocational Major students visited Lysterfield Lake and SynRadio at RMIT in Melbourne. Students planned games and activities to share with their peers and used their communication and organisational skills in groups. At SynRadio they recorded a podcast and demonstrated skills in speaking and listening, in preparation for their own podcasts back at school.
Year 10 & 11 Applied Learning – Mountain Biking & Bushwalking at Lysterfield Park (Clyde North Campus)
On Monday 2 June, Year 10 and 11 students from the Applied Learning program embarked on an adventurous Personal Development excursion to Lysterfield Park. The day involved both mountain biking and bushwalking, with students assessed for riding competency before being grouped by ability. Accompanied by Bike Ed-qualified staff, they navigated designated trails and completed bushwalking routes while learning about safety, endurance, and the value of teamwork. Students enjoyed the day before returning with a strong sense of accomplishment.
Year 12 Literature – Excursion to the NGV (Both Campuses) On Thursday 5 June, Year 12 Literature students visited the National Gallery of Victoria to explore art through literary interpretation. They participated in two guided programs: Literature Perspective and Voices of Country. Students analysed visual texts and reflected on themes of identity, perspective, and cultural storytelling. The excursion added rich dimension to their studies, connecting visual and written expression in new and creative ways.
VET Hospitality & Cookery – Buffet Experience at Lynbrook Hotel (Both Campuses) On Wednesday, 21 May and Friday 6 June, VET Hospitality and Cookery students attended a buffet lunch at the Lynbrook Hotel as part of their assessment for the units work effectively in a commercial kitchen and use hospitality skills effectively. The excursion allowed students to observe and reflect on industry-standard buffet service and apply theoretical learning to a real-world setting. This formed part of the twelve service periods required for course completion and deepened their understanding of customer service and food presentation. No doubt they also enjoyed the meal! Students will apply their underpinning knowledge to their upcoming annual VET Dinner, inviting families and friends to experience their designed cultural influenced buffet menu.
VET Music – Incursion and Performance Evening (Both Campuses) On Wednesday 4 June, VET Music students spent the school day in preparation for their evening performance in the Geode Theatre. Students were responsible for setup, soundcheck, and rehearsals during the day, and returned in the evening to showcase their musical talents to an audience of family and friends. The concert was a resounding success, with entertaining performances from singers and bands. Students displayed responsibility, creativity, and professionalism in both their performances and event coordination.
Year 12 Vocational Major – First Aid and CPR Training (Clyde North Campus) On Tuesday 10 June, Year 12 Vocational Major students completed their First Aid and CPR training on campus. The training was part of their VCE–VM course requirements and included theoretical assessments and hands-on practice. Students showed maturity and attentiveness throughout the session and are now more confident in their ability to respond in emergency situations.
Year 12 Vocational Major – Sustainable Development Goals and Vcafe (Cranbourne Campus)
As part of their Personal Development Skills program, students were busy planning and presenting their Sustainable Development Goals projects to leadership last week. Students must plan a project that aligns with a goal from the United Nations, including topics such as zero hunger, no poverty and life below water. As part of this topic, they visited The Big Issue in Melbourne and completed a project based around homelessness awareness. Students have also been busy working the VCafe as part of their Work-Related Skills project, managing their café business and providing food and service to students and staff.
These excursions and incursions have provided students with opportunities to explore, experience, and apply their learning beyond the classroom. We thank all the staff involved for their hard work in organising and supervising these events.
