Year 1 Spotlight

Exceeding Expectations!

This term, the Grade 1 students have been working extra hard both in the classroom and in the yard. They continue to exceed our expectations by consistently following classroom procedures and demonstrating our SWPBS values.

In Numeracy, the students have been learning to skip count by 2s, 5s, 10s and beyond. To consolidate their understanding, each class held a Classroom Market Day (pictured below). Students created items to sell in their themed shops, including paper plane shops, pizza shops and origami shops. Using play money to purchase items, they practised their skip-counting skills in a fun and engaging real-world context.

We were also blown away by the convincing language and persuasive techniques the students used in their persuasive writing pieces on topics of their choice. It seems that many of our students would love to have a classroom pet!

On Tuesday 26th May, we were fortunate to visit CERES Community Environment Park. Students had the opportunity to plant seeds, hold worms, feed chickens and participate in a scavenger hunt around the farm. They learned about different types of farming, sustainability and where our food comes from, making it a memorable and valuable learning experience.

The term is not over yet, and we still have many exciting and engaging activities planned for the weeks ahead. We look forward to finishing the term strongly and continuing our learning journey together.
