National Simultaneous Storytime

Celebrating Reading, Literacy & Community
National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is one of Australia's most beloved annual reading events, bringing together millions of children, families, libraries, schools and early learning centres to share the same story, at the same time, right across Australia. It’s a joyful celebration of reading, literacy, and community.
Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. It is an event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.
By participating in NSS we aim to:
- Promote the value of reading and literacy.
- Promote the value and fun of books.
- Promote an Australian writer and publisher.
- Promote storytime activities in libraries and communities around the country.
- Provide opportunities to involve parents, grandparents, the media and others to participate in and enjoy the occasion.
Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller was selected as the 2026 NSS book – meaning millions of children across Australia read this story together on 27 May 2026.
Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller delivers a high-energy story that will have you cheering like you're in the stands. Rookie captain Luna Roo leaves nothing on the pitch as she steps up to lead FC Outback in a thrilling face-off against Bush United, learning to silence her doubts, believe in her skills, and trust her teammates along the way. This is a full-throttle, tail-thumping, goal-scoring underdog story with a heartwarming message that courage and determination are a winning combination.
FPS students participated and engaged in a range of related learning activities exploring the themes of resilience, growth mindsets and Australian fauna, as pictured below.
