Mercy Prayer

We pray for the Sisters of Mercy, who established our school and for the priests who have served at St. Mary’s.

It is through their vision, determination and strong faith that we enjoy the benefits of a Catholic Education here in Mooroopna.

We are proud to be a Mercy School, where the values of love and justice are taught and lived every day.

Mass of Compassion - 12th June

We will celebrate a Whole School Mass on Friday 12th June at 10am with the theme Mass of Compassion (Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus).  The Mass of Compassion is a significant celebration, where we put our social justice values into action and bring food items for those in need in our local community. Our Social Justice Team will present the goods we have collected to a representative from St. Vinnies. All families and friends are most welcome to join us and are asked to bring a donation for St. Vinnie’s to add to our baskets of new Winter clothing and non-perishable food items if able.

St Vinnies Winter Appeal 2026

Our annual St. Vinnie’s Winter Appeal continues this week and continues until the end of term. We invite families to donate up-to-date non-perishable food items, such as cup-a-soup, two minute noodles, canned soup, baked beans etc. Vinnies is also in need of blankets, warm coats, jumpers, pyjamas as we move into the colder months.

Each classroom has a washing basket to be filled and donated to St. Vinnie’s to assist those less fortunate than ourselves as part of our Social Justice efforts.

Donations may be sent to school with your child or left at the Office.

We appreciate your contributions to this annual appeal!

Sacraments of First Eucharist and Confirmation, 2026

Enrolment forms for our Sacramental Program of Reconciliation are available at the school office or please contact Ann-Margaret Carroll acarroll@smmooroopna.catholic.edu.au

To participate in the Sacramental Program, children need to be in at least Grade Three or above and be a baptised Catholic.

The Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation will be celebrated together this year in early Term 4. These important sacraments are offered to students in Grades 4–6. Parents may decide when they would like their child to receive these sacraments for the first time.

All year levels learn about the Sacraments as part of Religious Education lessons. Students in Grades 3–6 will also participate in special reflection days that focus on preparing for the upcoming Sacramental celebration.

Parent Information Nights will be held to provide parents and guardians with an opportunity to learn more about these important sacraments and to receive information about the celebration dates.

The Gift of the Spirit - Along the Track article

The latest edition of Along the Track entitled “The Gift of the Spirit” is attached to today’s newsletter. I read this story many years ago: An elderly Cherokee brave told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. The battle, he said, is between two wolves inside us all. One is evil, it is anger, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego. The other is good. It is joy, peace, love, kindness, hope, humility, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith. The boy asked his grandfather, which wolf wins. The one you feed, the grandfather said.
