Term 2 Week 8
Reconciliation Week – All In
Last week concluded Reconciliation Week. I thank all the teachers and students for their contribution to our action wall that is on display at the Marian Centre.
WEAR IT YELLOW DAY
On Friday 29th May we raised money for Children’s Ground.
I thank all the staff and students who wore a splash of yellow to remember First Nations people who need our support to close the gap with education, health and wellbeing. We raised $125.90 which has been sent off to Children’s Ground.
Thank you for supporting this great organisation.
An Update from our FIRE Carriers
For the remainder of the term, the FIRE Carriers will explore the history of NAIDOC Week. They will learn about this year’s theme – 50 Years of Deadly.
NAIDOC Week
NAIDOC week is celebrated all around Australia during the second week of the school holidays. At St Mary’s, we will celebrate this year’s theme in the first week of Term 3.
NAIDOC Week Poster
Each year, the NAIDOC Committee hold a competition for artists to present a piece that represents the theme of the year. This year the NAIDOC Week poster has the art work of Zaachariaha Fielding.
NAIDOC Family Day
During the holidays Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-operative will be holding a NAIDOC family Day on Thursday 9th July from 10 am to 2 pm We look forward to celebrating NAIDOC week in Term 3.
Some future dates to look forward to in Term 3 –
- National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day on Tuesday 4th August
- ASHEfest - Prep to Year 3 on Wednesday 9th September
- ASHEfest - Year 4 to Year 6 on Thursday 10th September

Ganbina - Education Scholarships
At Ganbina our annual scholarships are designed to support all Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander participants from Prep to Year 6 in Greater Shepparton.
Ganbina provide a range of support to participants including financial support for educational expenses occurred, such as school fees, school uniforms, camps/excursion/swimming, books/stationary, etc. We also provide an internal accelerated learning program for our primary school participants to help get them on track or keep them on track with their schooling.

Acknowledgement of Country
At St Mary’s Primary School Mooroopna we Acknowledge the Traditional people of this land. The Yorta Yorta Nation are the Traditional Custodians of this area and we remember their elders, past, present and future. We remember that the Aboriginal people of Australia will always be the traditional owners of the land on which we gather today. We continue to grow through education and reconciliation to a better future for all Australians.
